I love supplements lol. but not all, for all people.

I remember in my early classes becoming an RD some would say “food first, food first” as if it was bad to supplement - I absolutely agree you need to do the basics well and we love a food first base, and . I have a holistic approach, but I’m also realistic, and fun (sometimes). Let’s be practical. In addition to needing help with some nutrients, there’s also the factors of buy-in AND convenience.

So do you NEED supplements? Depends on your situation.

So you want some supps… now what?

As you saw on my story, a study came out buying the first 30 immune boosting supplements on Amazon and the results were 🍌 . (PMID: 35947382)

This post will help you think about “should I”

I’m a registered dietitian nutritionist trained in reading labs and helping you supplement ✌️

Today is my dads 75th birthday!

My grandfather always said to my dad, “stay in shape, it’ll save your life one day.”

My dad served in Vietnam, and while my grandfather said that in relation to the war, he meant it well beyond that.

My dad DID stay in shape throughout his life, and like many of us, was far from perfect.

As I worked in nutrition and fitness he would ask me questions and apply them to his life immediately. I was impressed with how quickly he applied things, and how CONSISTENT he would be with them.

One major shift that he wasn’t prepared for was how his activity and nutrition shifted after he retired. He had LESS regular movement and more time to eat lol! 🕛 Of course, his body changed throughout this time.

With more knowledge and understanding of himself, he changed his routine. It has, and continues to be impressive to me.

His health has only improved with age.

So am I here to say, “stay in shape everyone”? Well, that would be a little too obvious (and annoying). We all likely want that…

But, my message is that it’s never too late to learn or improve. You’re never too young or too old to keep writing your chapter. Keep trying. Keep learning. Keep improving. Keep going.

Happy birthday Dad! 🎉🎉🤍🤍

Don’t know where to start in this chapter or phase you’re in? Message me.

Nope, not talking about Planned Parenthood 😝

🌱 I was honored and saddened this week that one of my clients reached out for me to work with their sibling - an athlete who was diagnosed with a form of cancer.

📋Could I legally work with this person as an RD? YES.
🧬 But am I the BEST resource for this person at this point in their treatment? No, because I know better colleagues and RD oncology specialists who can provide care and coaching with these circumstances. I'm informed, but I haven't devoted my work to oncology care like others have.

🪬Being a great generalist is valuable, but also recognizing the specialties we have helps everyone.

⌨️So I posted in my networks looking for an oncology specialist to refer to. The majority who answered were qualified, but one who volunteered was clearly not. It was a good reminder to me which I wanted to share with you, that everyone has a different interpretation of being safe, and more importantly, being safe AND effective. If I took this client on, I would absolutely be safe, because that's the way I know to work, but perhaps it wouldn't have been the MOST safe or the MOST effective.

☀️You may be eager to help, but you may be an even better help to those you refer away.

🤝I’m always here to answer questions or discuss with both practitioners or clients... connection and conversation is everything.

xx

On a few occasions, Jamie has asked me this great question - After 5 years+ of hosting retreats, which one has been your favorite?

There are more incredible memories, moments, and people over these last handful of years than I can possible share in a few paragraphs. Dogsledding, mid-winter polar plunges, live music on the beach at sunset, laughter with a community, an intimate conversation by the fire, a glass of wine, a fall hike, those moments when I saw people digging deep to embrace change, a hug that held on tightly, and cathartic tears that were finally released.

What has captured me most is the individuals who have taken a brave step towards something new, better, & different.
Those who didn’t let life get in their way and those who left any remnants of ego at the door. Those who were ready to write the next chapter in their life.

When a retreat ends, I sometimes wonder how we will make the next one equally as impactful. Then as life seems to go, the right idea is born, and the right people come forward.

This October, we have created a retreat that infuses all of our
"best" from the last 5 years. All the things that we have seen make a significant change in health, happiness, and humanness.

This will be our last retreat this year, but it certainly will be one to remember. It will be the event that when Jamie asks me again, “Christa what’s been your favorite retreat”, this is the retreat that will flash before my eyes.

The retreat that will leave an imprint on me but most importantly, you.

Was talking to a friend who was bummed they haven’t been working out like before.

This person is used to doing multiple classes per week but can’t make it there with a new role and children.

But rather than worrying about hitting it hard in these classes, and attending a class on someone else’s schedule… instead, scheduling a 30 minute aerobic session at home/ outside 1-2x a week and a 30 minute weight training session 1-2x would provide SO much value, and would likely be more attainable and consistent.

(Respectfully, yes, this would be in addition to walking and moving as much as possible throughout the day. Have to say that for all you psychos 😆)

***Don’t keep yourself out of the game because you think you’re not doing enough.***

“What do I eat while traveling?!”

Not much different than you normally eat.

If you’re traveling often, it’s most likely for leisure or for work. Let’s also recognize that there is extreme privilege in travel in general, and being able to have a choice in the food selection.

REGARDLESS of your body composition status and goals, you can benefit from buying your own food.

Even if you want to eat some meals out and explore new restaurants having some staples in your hotel or air b&b is a great idea.

It will create more options for your “fun foods” aka the fried foods or novelty food item in town
Saves some cash in your wallet
decreases decision fatigue/stay present reduce the amount of excess sodium and fat intake
Digestion: Sticking to tried and true foods and fiber can really help.

Here’s how I work backwards when traveling:
- DETERMINE COOKING APPLIANCES. 🍳 Know what you have: a fridge? microwave? hot plate? etc.
- This will determine WHAT you buy.
- YOUR SCHEDULE. 📖 do you need more breakfasts or more dinners?
- What do you LIKE TO EAT?! don’t buy stuff you don’t look forward to. (I love an egg sandwich, quesadilla, and nachos lol) So for me, I had a microwave and a fridge. Perfect. I can make eggs, quesadillas, and nachos all in the microwave.
- Pick proteins FIRST. Carbs and fat options are the easiest and most accessible to find.
- 1st picture of the fridge: after I landed in Arizona I went to the grocery store and bought my key items:
- Protein: eggs; egg whites; fully cooked chicken sausage; fully cooked grilled chicken
- Carbs/Antioxidants/Fiber: cooked broccoli from the salad bar, arugula, raspberries, blackberries, corn tortillas, tortilla chips, grapes; popcorn; microwave rice
- Fats: guacamole; shredded cheese
- 2nd pic: Hiking snacks: fig bars; go macro kids bars
- Other: cold brew and almond milk; hot sauce; nu go protein bar
- What I made real talk: microwaved eggs. Seriously. Didn’t use a hot place or anything once.
- What if you’re not about the microwave? You’ll be just fine using it for a week.

- 3rd pic: eggs, chicken sausage, broccoli, rice, arugula, cheese in a bowl. SO satisfying after a hike. ⛰

I’m not in pursuit of having zero insecurities.

But I am in pursuit of living life to the fullest with them and sharing space within my mind and body for all of it.

THAT process MAY LEAD to having less insecurities. 👊🏻
