Now that the kids are back to school, it's time to focus on mom and dad. As an Aging Life Care Manager, I help older adults and their families navigate the challenges of aging with confidence and peace of mind. Drawing on a background in geriatric care, I assess each client's medical, functional, and emotional needs, then build and adjust a care plan around them. I coordinate medical appointments and home care, monitor wellbeing over time, and step in quickly during a crisis like a hospitalization or sudden decline. For families who are overwhelmed, distant, or new to the aging-services system, I serve as their trusted guide and advocate — the eyes, ears, and coordinator on the ground — so their loved one stays safe and as independent as possible, and they don't have to navigate it alone.

When the Temperature Rises, Keep an Eye on Older Loved Ones

Extreme heat can be especially dangerous for older adults. Watch for these warning signs:

🔹 Increased confusion or unusual behavior
🔹 Dizziness or lightheadedness
🔹 Fatigue or weakness
🔹 Headache
🔹 Dry mouth or dark-colored urine (signs of dehydration)
🔹 Rapid heartbeat or difficulty breathing
🔹 Hot, flushed skin or excessive sweating
🔹 Not drinking enough water or skipping meals
🔹 A home that is too warm or doesn't have adequate air conditioning

💙 A quick phone call or visit can make a big difference. Helping an older loved one stay hydrated, cool, and comfortable can prevent serious heat-related illnesses.

During these visits, you may notice changes that weren't obvious before, such as:

• Increased forgetfulness or confusion
