PART 5: Healing Is Not a Quick Fix

My life today is a hundred times better than it was back then. Not because it’s perfect — it isn’t. But because I know how to meet what arises. Even with tools, healing takes years, lifetimes... Years of remembering to remember in the moment that I was triggered. Years of learning to pause instead of react. Years of choosing differently — again and again.

Often it starts with something simple: A pause. A breath. A moment of presence. That pause is reminding me, and my nervous system to come back online. It gives me space to choose instead of defaulting to old habits. And no — I don’t always get it right. But every time I practice, I strengthen those neural pathways. I wear a new groove in my brain. It gets easier. Softer. More familiar.

Growth isn’t about never reacting. It’s about recovering faster and with more compassion. What if getting better didn’t mean being perfect — just more present?

(Next: grief, regret, and learning to forgive myself.)

PART 4: The First Crack of Light

About 10–15 years later, something different entered my life. I was seeing a therapist who introduced me to meditation and mindfulness. At first, it felt strange… even uncomfortable. But it was also the first time anyone had shown me that I didn’t have to live entirely inside my thoughts. I learned about being in the present moment. I learned about gratitude. I learned about loving-kindness — especially toward myself. For the first time, I had options. I began collecting tools. I didn’t know how to use them yet, and I certainly hadn’t integrated them into my life — but they existed. And that mattered.
If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always gotten. Learning new tools creates new possibilities. New responses. New outcomes. I wasn’t healed overnight — not even close. But a door had opened.
Have you ever learned something that didn’t change everything immediately, but quietly changed the direction of your life?

(Next: why healing takes time — and why that’s okay.)

PART 3: When Life Felt Bleak

There was a time in my life when everything felt heavy. I didn’t have close friends. I didn’t feel connected to my family. I didn’t have a support system to lean on. I was sad. Depressed. Exhausted by my own thoughts. I wondered why I was even here. I hated myself, and I believed life was unfair and bleak. I didn’t know how to feel my emotions, so they stayed stuck inside me — showing up as anxiety, hopelessness, and a constant sense that something was wrong.

I didn’t know it then, but I wasn’t broken. I was unresourced. No one had taught me how to work with my nervous system. No one had taught me how to process pain. No one had taught me how to be present with myself. And when you don’t have tools, you keep repeating what you know — even when it hurts.

Have you ever judged yourself for struggling, without realizing you were never taught another way?

(Next: the moment everything began to shift.)

PART 2: Looking for Love Outside Myself

For most of my life, I was searching for someone to love me. I didn’t realize that was what I was doing — I just knew I didn’t want to be alone with myself. Being alone felt uncomfortable, heavy, unsafe. So I filled that space with relationships. I always had a boyfriend. And I always believed this one would make me happy. Without knowing it, I handed my sense of worth and joy over to someone else. If they were happy, I felt okay. If they pulled away, I fell apart. What hurts the most looking back isn’t the relationships that ended — it’s the love I missed while I was looking elsewhere. The friendships I didn’t nurture. The connections that were already there, quietly offering love I didn’t know how to receive. I didn’t have the skills to build healthy relationships because I didn’t have a relationship with myself. And so I stayed busy… distracted… disconnected.
Have you ever looked for love outside yourself because being alone felt too hard?

(Next: what happens when you keep living this way for too long.)

Part 1 of a series: I Was Asleep

I don’t remember much of my childhood.
Or even my own children being young.
Large portions of my life feel blurry, like I was moving through the world without really being in it. I don’t love words like “woke” or “asleep,” but if I’m honest… I was asleep for many years.
What I do remember clearly is how I felt most of my life:
Not good enough.
Not good enough to be accepted by my family or my peers.
Not good enough to fit in, to do well in school, to succeed the way I thought I was supposed to.
And especially… not worthy of love.
I don’t know exactly when that belief began. I remember being a little girl, my mom meeting with my teachers, trying to figure out what was “wrong” with me. Why I couldn’t sit still. Why I forgot homework. Why my desk was always a mess. I was taken from counselor to counselor, searching for an answer.
Somewhere along the way, I stopped asking who I was and started asking where I might be accepted.
I didn’t find that place in school.
So I looked for it in relationships.
I was always in a relationship. Always hoping someone else would make me feel lovable, safe, whole. I didn’t realize it then, but I had placed my happiness entirely in someone else’s hands.
And in doing so, I missed so much love that was already there.
I didn’t know how to love myself.
I didn’t know how to have healthy relationships.
I didn’t know how to feel my emotions or move through old pain.
I was conditioned, disconnected, and deeply lost… and I didn’t even know it yet.
💭 Have you ever looked back and realized you were surviving, not really living?
(Next: how being “asleep” eventually led me to my breaking point — and why that mattered.)

I’m an integrative healing practitioner, and this space is about healing, presence, and remembering who you are beneath conditioning and survival.
I’m currently sharing my personal story in a series of posts — not because it’s perfect or complete, but because it’s real.
For many years, I lived disconnected from myself, unsure of my worth, and without the tools to understand my emotions or nervous system. What changed my life wasn’t a single breakthrough — it was learning gentle, practical tools that helped me come back into my body, into the present moment, and into relationship with myself.
Healing is not a destination.
It’s a lifelong, compassionate practice.
If you’ve ever felt lost, overwhelmed, or like you were just getting through the days — you’re not alone. My hope is that something shared here helps you feel a little more seen, resourced, and at home in yourself.
✨ You can begin with Part 1 of my story below.
Thank you for being here 🤍
