It is hard to believe that it has been two years since Hurricane Helene devastated our county and left an impact that will be felt for years to come. Even with the passing of time, some scars remain; reminders of what our community endured and overcame.
But through the destruction, something even stronger shined through: the resilience of our community.
We are incredibly thankful for every fire department, Emergency Management, Emergency Operations Center, and the countless volunteers who answered the call. Day after day, you worked to protect our neighbors, care for those in need, clear our roads, rebuild our communities, and help our beautiful towns begin to heal.
Helene showed us just how much we can accomplish when we stand together. Neighbors helped neighbors. Communities lifted one another up. And when our region was at its darkest, the people of Madison County continued to shine.
Two years later, we remember what was lost, honor those who served, and celebrate how far we have come.
We are strong. We are resilient. And we will not be broken.
