🔮 THEE HOLISTIC MAVEN: TAROT MADE SIMPLE

🎴 LESSON FOUR: THE COURT CARDS

The 16 Court Cards are part of the Minor Arcana. Each suit contains a Page, Knight, Queen and King.

Court Cards can represent you, another person, a personality, an energy, a role or a particular way of handling a situation.

Here’s an easy way to remember the ranks:

📜 PAGE: LEARNING & DISCOVERY
Curiosity, beginnings, messages and potential.

Think: The Page learns.

🐎 KNIGHT: PURSUIT & ACTION
Movement, goals, dedication and momentum.

Think: The Knight pursues.

👑 QUEEN: INWARD MASTERY
Embodiment, self-awareness, influence and inner authority.

Think: The Queen embodies.

👑 KING: OUTWARD MASTERY
Direction, responsibility, leadership and external authority.

Think: The King directs.

But the rank is only half of the card’s meaning.

Every Court Card combines its rank energy with the element of its suit:

RANK ELEMENTS

🌎 Page = Earth
🌬️ Knight = Air
💧 Queen = Water
🔥 King = Fire

SUIT ELEMENTS

🔥 Wands = Fire
💧 Cups = Water
🌬️ Swords = Air
🌎 Pentacles = Earth

This creates a double-element combination that gives each Court Card its own personality and meaning.

For example:

🔥💧 Queen of Wands = Water of Fire
She internally understands and embodies the passionate, creative and confident energy of Fire.

💧🌬️ Knight of Cups = Air of Water
He actively pursues emotional connections, creative visions and matters of the heart.

So, although every Queen represents inward mastery, the Queen of Wands expresses it very differently from the Queen of Cups, Swords or Pentacles.

The easiest way to remember:

Rank = how the energy behaves
Suit = where that energy is expressed

Different tarot traditions may switch the elemental correspondences assigned to the Knights and Kings. For this series, we’re using Page/Earth, Knight/Air, Queen/Water and King/Fire.

🎴 LESSON THREE: THE MINOR ARCANA

The Minor Arcana represents the experiences, emotions, thoughts, choices and challenges that make up everyday life.

A traditional tarot deck contains 56 Minor Arcana cards, divided into four suits. Each suit contains 14 cards: Ace through 10, followed by the Page, Knight, Queen and King.

🪄 WANDS • FIRE

Action, passion, creativity, motivation and ambition.

Think: What drives you.

🏆 CUPS • WATER

Emotions, relationships, intuition and connection.

Think: What you feel.

⚔️ SWORDS • AIR

Thoughts, communication, truth, decisions and conflict.

Think: What you think and communicate.

🪙 PENTACLES • EARTH

Work, money, the body, home and the material world.

Think: What you build, manage and experience physically.

Depending on the deck, you may see Wands called Rods or Staves, Cups called Chalices, Swords called Blades, Knives or Athames, and Pentacles called Coins or Disks. The names and artwork may change, but the basic meanings and elemental associations remain the same.

And remember: Minor doesn’t mean unimportant—it means everyday.

🎴 LESSON TWO: THE MAJOR ARCANA

The Major Arcana consists of 22 cards, numbered 0 through 21.

These cards represent major life themes, important lessons, turning points, personal or spiritual growth and experiences that may have a lasting influence.

But remember: Major doesn’t necessarily mean dramatic—it means meaningful.

Together, these cards tell a symbolic story known as the Fool’s Journey, the story of stepping into the world, learning through experience, facing yourself and eventually becoming more fully who you are.

ENTERING THE WORLD: CARDS 0–7

🎴 The Fool: I begin.
🎴 The Magician: I have the tools.
🎴 The High Priestess: I listen within.
🎴 The Empress: I create and nurture.
🎴 The Emperor: I create structure.
🎴 The Hierophant: I learn the rules.
🎴 The Lovers: I choose according to my values.
🎴 The Chariot: I take control and move forward.

DISCOVERING INNER STRENGTH: CARDS 8–14

🎴 Strength: I master myself with compassion.
🎴 The Hermit: I search within.
🎴 Wheel of Fortune: Life changes.
🎴 Justice: Choices have consequences.
🎴 The Hanged Man: I surrender and see differently.
🎴 Death: I release what no longer serves me.
🎴 Temperance: I integrate and rebalance.

FACING THE SHADOW: CARDS 15–19

🎴 The Devil: I confront what binds me.
🎴 The Tower: False foundations collapse.
🎴 The Star: Hope returns.
🎴 The Moon: I walk through uncertainty.
🎴 The Sun: Truth and vitality return.

COMPLETING THE JOURNEY: CARDS 20–21

🎴 Judgement: I answer the call and awaken.
🎴 The World: I complete one cycle and prepare to begin another.

The Fool’s Journey isn’t really a straight line. We complete one cycle, step through another door and eventually become the Fool again—ready to begin something new.

🎴 LESSON ONE: MEET THE TAROT DECK

Let’s start with the basics: How is a traditional tarot deck organized?

A tarot deck contains 78 cards:

✨ 22 Major Arcana cards
These represent major life lessons, turning points and the larger journey you’re moving through.

🪄 40 numbered Minor Arcana cards
These represent everyday experiences, emotions, situations, challenges and choices.

👑 16 Court Cards
These are the Pages, Knights, Queens and Kings. They can represent you, someone else, a personality, an energy, a role or a particular way of handling a situation.

The Court Cards are technically part of the Minor Arcana, but we’ll study them separately because they have their own personalities, energies and patterns.

The easiest way to remember it:

✨ Major Arcana = the major chapters
🪄 Minor Arcana = the everyday events
👑 Court Cards = the people, personalities, energies and roles

You don’t have to memorize all 78 cards at once. Understanding how the deck is organized gives you a much easier place to begin.

🎴 QUESTION ASKED:

“Which tarot card do you connect with or relate to the most?”

HERE’S MY ANSWER:

For me, it’s the Queen of Wands, often called the Witch of the Tarot.

The Queen of Wands represents:

✨ Confidence and independence
✨ Creativity and entrepreneurship
✨ Warmth and magnetism
✨ Passion and determination
✨ Intuition paired with action
✨ Being unapologetically yourself
✨ Encouraging others while pursuing your own vision
✨ Creating something from your ideas instead of only dreaming about it

She isn’t quietly sitting around waiting for magic to happen—she’s taking action to create it.

The black cat at her feet represents intuition, independence, mystery and her connection to magic. It can also be seen as her familiar—a trusted companion and intuitive ally who stands beside her as she works her magic. The cat shows that beneath the Queen’s warm, confident exterior is a woman who trusts her instincts, understands her shadow side and doesn’t need anyone’s permission to be herself.

For me, that means running my shop, curating and creating products, reading tarot, offering other holistic services, teaching workshops, making art, and constantly figuring out new ways to build my business—usually while drinking all the coffee my doctor has graciously allotted me. ☕😂

At the same time, I’m being a mom and wife, managing a household, helping manage my grandfather’s affairs, bartending and waitressing, DJing karaoke, hosting trivia, dealing with the public, and usually doing five other things all at once!

But I also have days when I slow down, watch television, curl up with a good book, or completely disappear into writing one of my own fantasy worlds.

Apparently, I have two settings: doing everything at once or curled up with coffee, a book, and absolutely no intention of moving. ☕😂

But like every tarot card—and every real person—the Queen of Wands also has a shadow side:

🔥 Taking on too much
🔥 Burning herself out
🔥 Becoming impatient
🔥 Doubting herself when recognition doesn’t come quickly
🔥 Looking confident outwardly while questioning herself privately
🔥 Occasionally becoming a little too fiery or blunt

And if I’m being honest, those parts sound pretty familiar too.

That’s what makes the Queen of Wands so relatable to me. She isn’t unrealistically perfect. She’s intuitive, creative, passionate, independent and determined to create something meaningful—but sometimes the woman holding everything together needs to remember that she’s allowed to rest too.
