Holiday Gift Idea: Sweet Woodland Farm's Elderberry Syrup

Sweet Woodland Farms is a North Fork Farm that grows medicinal and culinary herbs using mindful, earth friendly practices. Owner Rachel Stephens was born and raised on the East End of Long Island where she currently owns and runs Sweet Woodland Farm.

As for their elderberry syrup, described on Sweet Woodland Farm's, website:

"In German and Scandinavian lore, the tree was inhabited by the Elder Mother (Hyldemöer) or Lady Elder, whose permission must be sought before the tree was even touched, let alone cut. In order to make use of the magical power of the tree, the correct prayers and offerings would have to be made otherwise Hyldemöer would take her revenge. It is said that a witch can turn herself into an elder tree and its wood is used for the making of magic wands. In Ireland witches rode elder sticks, not broomsticks. Witches conjured rough weather by stirring a bucket of water with an elder twig".

Elderberry is a very commonly used herb, especially during the winter season. The berry has antiviral activity. Constituents in Elder berry neutralize the activity of hemagglutinin spikes on the surface of the many viruses, which is used to pe*****te a host's cells in order to replicate. Therefore, using elderberry regularly through cold & flu season may reduce virus' adhesion and replication and may be protective against influenza.

Recommended dose for adults: 1 tsp per day, up to 6 X per day (more during acute onset of illness!).
