How much time do you waste worrying about things over which you have zero control?

That was a problem for me as a young adult. If I didn’t have something to worry about - I worried about that! 🙄

After enough years of that, I later began counseling patients with addiction problems who were in a constant state of worry. In our group sessions, we always read the Serenity Prayer and it finally soaked in to my brain and heart!

Why should we stew over things that we could never change - no matter how hard we try - and waste one minute of our precious time?

What to do if you absolutely can’t stop your worry thoughts?!

* Take a walk outside!
* Put on your favorite music!
* Watch something uplifting on YouTube.
* Call an old friend who always lifts your mood!
* Bake something yummy. Give it away if you don’t want the calories!
* Do something kind for a neighbor who has trouble doing it themselves

I’m sure you’ve read this many times but maybe when you read it one more time you’ll let it truly soak in!

I found this quite amusing. But you know what? Many of us have experienced the urge to scream at some point. Life can feel very overwhelming!

Our surroundings are constantly buzzing with activity. Whether we follow the news or not, our friends and loved ones keep us informed about everything from wars and quarantines to child trafficking, aviation mishaps, and economic troubles.

But don’t let it consume you! You can’t control the chaos around you. Personally, I try to minimize my news consumption, even though I like to stay aware of current events. Instead, I focus on my immediate world—my family, my personal goals, and activities that bring me joy.

Before you feel like you need to scream, try listening to your favorite music, read a good book, take a walk, exercise, meditate, or indulge in drawing or painting. Discover what brings you peace and happiness. Establish a routine and cultivate a life that resonates with you.

That’s the most effective way to make a positive impact in this world—simply by being happy! ❤️

IS THIS DIFFICULT FOR YOU?

I used to believe I could totally direct the course of my life , but in reality I had no clue what was ahead for me. Over time I discovered that I could have never predicted how my mistakes, “misfortunes”, or failures would open a door which lead me to a much better life than I had hoped for. Over time I was able to just trust the “mishaps”, the disappointments, and the detours that happened outside of my control, because I believe we are definitely guided.
