✨ MEET ALLIE, THE NEWEST MEMBER OF THE MILK MEDIC TEAM! ✨

We’re so excited to welcome Allie, BSN, RN, IBCLC to the Milk Medic family! 🤍

Allie graduated from the University of Memphis in 2019 and brings over seven years of nursing experience, including three years as a Mother-Baby Nurse and four years caring for infants and toddlers. She has also spent five years as a Certified Lactation Specialist, supporting moms and babies in the hospital setting.

Her background in postpartum and pediatric nursing allows her to provide compassionate, knowledgeable support with breastfeeding, pumping, and newborn feeding concerns.

As a breastfeeding mom of two, Allie also understands firsthand the joys and challenges of feeding your baby. 💕

Allie lives in Hernando, MS with her husband and two children. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends and being involved in her church.

We’re so thankful to have Allie on our team and are excited to expand our care throughout Northwest Mississippi very soon! 🩷

✨ Not all mastitis is the same. ✨

Many parents are surprised to learn that many cases of mastitis actually begin as inflammation, not infection.

Knowing the difference can help you get the right treatment sooner and avoid unnecessary antibiotics.

🌿 Inflammatory Mastitis
• Tender, painful area of the breast
• Redness and swelling
• May feel warm
• Fever or body aches can occur, even without a bacterial infection

What helps:
✔️ Continue breastfeeding or pumping based on your baby's normal feeding pattern (avoid trying to "empty" the breast excessively, I like to use drain instead)
✔️ Ice after feeds
✔️ Rest and stay hydrated
✔️ Wear a supportive, non-restrictive bra
✔️ Consider an anti-inflammatory medication if it's safe for you and recommended by your healthcare provider

🦠 Bacterial Mastitis
If symptoms are worsening or not improving after 24–48 hours with supportive care, or your healthcare provider suspects a bacterial infection, antibiotics may be needed.

Signs may include:
• Increasing redness or swelling
• Persistent high fever
• Symptoms that continue to worsen despite conservative measures

🚨 Seek medical care promptly if you develop severe symptoms, notice a rapidly enlarging painful area, or think you may have an abscess.

The biggest takeaway? Pain doesn't always mean infection, and antibiotics aren't always the first answer. A thorough assessment can help determine the best next steps while protecting your milk supply.

Normal Breastfeeding: Expectation vs. Reality 🤱

Expectation:
"Feed your breastfed baby every 2–3 hours."

Reality:
"Feed your baby at least every 2–3 hours AND on demand."

Many parents are told by healthcare providers, family, and friends to watch the clock. But breastfeeding is designed to be responsive, not scheduled.

Cluster feeding, when your baby wants to nurse frequently over several hours, is a normal biological behavior, not a sign that you're "not making enough."

Your baby's frequent nursing helps:
🤍 Build and maintain your milk supply
🤍 Meet your baby's changing needs
🤍 Provide comfort, regulation, and connection

If you're concerned about your milk supply, your baby is nursing for very long periods without seeming satisfied, or you're worried about milk transfer, don't guess... reach out to a lactation consultant. An assessment can help determine what's normal and identify any feeding challenges that may need support.

Follow your baby's cues, not just the clock. 💛
