Look at the size of this girl! She just won a pro show this past weekend.

I know most people will immediately rip on her for steroid use. I’m not going to do that. I give her credit for doing what she loves. She’s making her own choices and chasing her passion.

At the highest levels, almost every sport comes with risks to your health. We all know the dangers that come with professional football and other extreme sports.

I will always love bodybuilding. It was my thing. I don’t even know if I would call it a sport. To me, bodybuilding was more like a form of art, something you created with your own body. These bodybuilders are definitely taking things to new levels nowadays.

We only get one life, and some of the things we do when we’re young may catch up to us someday. But that’s life. We make our choices, we chase what we love, and we deal with the consequences.

Either way... getting old isn't easy!!

I competed in bodybuilding across four different decades... the 80s, 90s, 2000s, and 2010s.

Bodybuilding taught me discipline. It taught me how to train with purpose, how to eat to get lean, and how to push this meat suit to limits most people never will. Sometimes I pushed it a little too far. I looked great on the outside, but not every decision I made was healthy.

When I was young, I thought I was indestructible. Then age caught up with me, and with age came wisdom.

Do I have regrets? No.

I did a lot of things right, and I made plenty of mistakes. I'm human. The difference isn't whether we make mistakes, it's whether we learn from them. Every lesson makes us a little wiser, a little stronger, and a little better than we were yesterday. Growth doesn't come from being perfect. It comes from owning our mistakes, learning from them, and moving forward.

Today, at 56, I still lift weights, just not the way I used to. I do more cardio, pay closer attention to my diet, and yes... I still enjoy some sweets in moderation. Life is about balance.

No matter where you are in life, it's never too late to become a healthier version of yourself.

Here's my advice: Change one bad habit every month.

Start with the smallest one. Get one win under your belt every month. One month becomes two. Two becomes six. Before you know it, you've replaced 12 bad habits with 12 better ones.

Small victories create big changes.

One year from now, you can be stronger, healthier, and happier than you are today.

The best time to start was yesterday. The next best time is today.

I do a 30-minute walk every single night. No matter what.

Some nights I walk to burn calories. Other nights I walk because it's the best therapy money can't buy.

Tonight is one of those nights. Every step helps me leave the stress of the day behind. Thirty minutes for the body. Thirty minutes for the mind.

LITTLE CHOICES MATTER! As we age, many people think slowing down is just part of getting older. In reality, it's often the demands of life, work, careers, family responsibilities, and everyday stress that cause us to become less active.

The more we slow down, the faster we tend to age. Extra weight creeps on, energy levels drop, and then losing that weight becomes even more difficult. It's a cycle that can be hard to break.

Staying fit isn't about perfection, it's about lifestyle and discipline. Discipline is simply the small choices we make throughout the day. Taking a 15-minute walk. Passing on the snacks people push on you at social events. Fasting a few days a week. Avoiding late-night eating. Little choices matter.

Over time, those small decisions add up to better health, more energy, and a better quality of life.

Life is simply better when you feel good about yourself and have the energy to enjoy it. Too many people live to eat instead of eating to live. A simple reminder: the little choices you make today become the person you are tomorrow.

This video was taken back in 2011. At 41 years old, I thought I was getting old, so I decided I would compete one more time.

In the spring, before I started my diet, I weighed 310 pounds. By competition day, I stepped on stage at 245 pounds.

That year, I won the Masters division at the Great Lakes Bodybuilding Show.

Looking back now, it's funny how perspective changes. At 41, I thought I was getting old. Today, I look at 41 and think, "That's still young."

Time has a way of changing how we see things, but the memories, hard work, and lessons stay with us. 💪
