When documentary filmmakers approach us, we just tell them there are too many boring moments to be following us around for a film. I stumbled upon these images on my phone today. Spring Equinox at the abbey. In this set of images, there is no ceremony, no camera, no speeches, no posing, just everybody doing the ordinary. Somehow, these are always some of my favorite pictures. The rituals matter. The moon cycles matter. The medicine making matters. But most of the life we've made together is comprised of very ordinary moments.

Well, this made our morning. Meltwater's analysis of the news and social conversation surrounding our Ministry launch over the past seven days. We spent a year planning and building the Ministry, and then did our best with the press release to articulate what it stands for. Apparently, the message got through. 💜 “Community identity is built around sisterhood, activism, and shared values.”

I tried to put this to music. Twice. And posted it, and Meta pretended that it might take a while, and that was sincere, because an hour later, the one minute video hasn't posted. Neither of my attempts were successful. And due to platform bugs, I have to do it from my phone or I can't edit the reels. Platform bugs we live with. So I have other things to get done, and I am sharing this with you, re-titling it 'a moment of silence' . . . harvesting h**p. The first top kolas were ready for harvest this week. Damn early.

Check out this mural painted by Zelga (lifesize images or nearly). We are looking forward to having her with us this December and will continue to follow her artwork. Honored to be inspiration to Zelga, we must admit that she's inspired us to consider apricot-colored aprons.

About Zelga . . .

British painter Zelga Miller explores tenderness, care and collective female strength through paintings and woodblock prints. Rooted in drawing, her figures emerge through veils of colour and light, where the smallest gestures—a lowered gaze, the tilt of a head or a fold of fabric—hold psychological and emotional weight.

Inspired by communities grounded in sisterhood, ritual and quiet resistance, Zelga has developed a special relationship with the Sisters of the Valley. Her paintings honour the space where vulnerability and resilience, care and rebellion coexist. She will spend time with the Sisters in Merced this December, deepening this connection and allowing the experience to inform the next chapter of her work.
