Growth & Grit Health and Wellness Coaching

Growth & Grit Health and Wellness Coaching Board-certified Health & Wellness Coach, Nurse Practitioner & Yoga Teacher. I've been vegetarian for over 15 years.

I help women reconnect with their health through sustainable habits, mindful movement, and compassionate support—because taking care of yourself isn’t selfish, it’s essential! I channel my passion for health and wellness and my love for animals through my diet and lifestyle. I'm a vegan home cook and enjoy plant-based cooking and baking. I started practicing yoga over 20 years ago and completed a

200 hour yoga teacher training in 2012. I a little obsessed with my rescue dogs Fiona and Ruby and my cat, Phoebe. I enjoy walking my dogs, lifting weights, and practicing and teaching yoga. I love travel, live music, dancing, hiking, and snuggling on the couch with my dogs and husband watching Schitt's Creek and The Great British Baking Show.

I’ve been thinking about my own patterns when it comes to staying active. I like being active. It matters to me. And yet, I don’t always find it easy to stick to a routine or be as consistent as I’d like. So I’ve been paying more attention, not just to whether I exercise, but to what happens when I don’t. What throws me off? What helps me get back to it? What do I tell myself when the plan falls apart? We all develop patterns and habits around physical activity/exercise, and I think there’s something useful about simply becoming aware of them. Not judging them. I came up with these five and I’m curious: **which one sounds most like you?** I can definitely see myself in more than one. I'd love for you to share in the comments! 😀

**Did you know?** Health & wellness coaching is an evidence-based approach to behavior change? It's not simply accountability or encouragement. And it’s gaining important recognition! CMS has proposed national Medicare payment for health and well-being coaching services, specifically recognizing national credentialing standards, including those of the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) (that's me!).

As a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC), this feels like an important and validating step forward for my profession. Health coaching helps people build the confidence, motivation and skills to make sustainable changes in their health and wellbeing. I’m proud to be part of a profession that is increasingly being recognized for the role it can play in improving health. 😄

Be honest. You don’t really believe me when I say 5 minutes of exercise counts. To be fair, I’m not sure I would have believed it either in my 20s, 30s, or even my 40s. As a person who has exercised much of my life, I had some pretty firmly held ideas about what “counted” as exercise; how long it needed to be, how hard I needed to work, and what it needed to look like.
It’s really only been within the past year that I’ve started examining some of those beliefs and realizing how rigid some of my own ideas about exercise had been. 5 minutes may not be the whole plan. **But 5 minutes still counts.** And on a day when life is particularly full, or when I my energy is very low, being willing to do 5, 10, or 15 minutes instead of deciding it isn’t worth doing at all can be the difference between staying connected to physical activity and letting it slip away. I’m learning that sometimes adaptability starts with changing what we believe counts. That’s one of the ideas we’ll explore in my 11-day *Stay Active When Life Gets in the Way* $11 email-experience.

Every morning, I make my bed—and I mean *make* it;
I pull everything back, smooth the fitted sheet, straighten each layer, fluff the pillows and put everything in its place. And then I feel ready to start my day. It’s a small ritual with a clear beginning and end, an immediate visible result, and that satisfying feeling of completion.
It got me thinking: habits are easier to repeat when they give us something **now** a sense of accomplishment, energy, calm, satisfaction, a small win. Maybe when we’re trying to build a habit, the question isn’t only, “Why is this good for me?”
It’s also: **What makes this feel rewarding today?** ☺️💜

I’ve been thinking about a question I suspect a lot of women ask themselves: **Why can’t I seem to do this anymore?** Maybe you used to be pretty active. You knew how to fit exercise into your life, and for the most part, you did.
And then somewhere along the way, it got harder; work, family, caregiving, changing energy. And let's not minimize the impact of a changing body. Life that simply looks different than it did 5, 10 or 20 years ago.
It’s easy to interpret that as a lack of motivation or discipline.
But I’ve started to think about it differently. **Maybe the way you used to make physical activity work just doesn’t fit your life right now.**
And maybe the answer isn’t trying harder to get back to what you used to do, but learning how to adapt.

That’s a big part of why I created **Stay Active When Life Gets in the Way**, my new 11-day email-experience for women in midlife.

If, "Why can’t I seem to do this anymore?", feels familiar, this may be for you.💜

My relationship with exercise has changed a lot over the past 5ish years. And so I find myself having to get curious and creative. Instead of fighting with myself or getting down on myself, I am finding new ways to work around the barriers and obstacles (most of which are the mental kind). This is the work I do with my clients and with myself. Feel free to share your own experience in the comments or message me. If you want one-on-one support, that's what I do. I'm here for you. 💜
