Growth & Grit Health and Wellness Coaching

Growth & Grit Health and Wellness Coaching Board-certified Health & Wellness Coach, Nurse Practitioner & Yoga Teacher. I've been vegetarian for over 15 years.

I help women reconnect with their health through sustainable habits, mindful movement, and compassionate support—because taking care of yourself isn’t selfish, it’s essential! I channel my passion for health and wellness and my love for animals through my diet and lifestyle. I'm a vegan home cook and enjoy plant-based cooking and baking. I started practicing yoga over 20 years ago and completed a

200 hour yoga teacher training in 2012. I a little obsessed with my rescue dogs Fiona and Ruby and my cat, Phoebe. I enjoy walking my dogs, lifting weights, and practicing and teaching yoga. I love travel, live music, dancing, hiking, and snuggling on the couch with my dogs and husband watching Schitt's Creek and The Great British Baking Show.

For most of my adult life, being active was simply part of my life, in fact, it was a priority and something I enjoyed. Then, for a period of 2-ish years, I stopped exercising regularly and had a surprisingly difficult time getting started again. It was frustrating! At the time, I didn't fully understand what was happening. Looking back, I can see that menopause, caregiving, work, poor sleep, and eventually a wrist fracture and osteoporosis diagnosis all played a role. What I know now is that it wasn't simply a lack of motivation or willpower. There was much more going on beneath the surface. I know many women share a similar experience, which is one of the reasons I created a FREE Movement Confidence Self-Assessment. If you've ever found yourself stuck in a cycle of starting and stopping with exercise, or do not exercise at all, let's remove the shame and self-blame. I really think this self-assessment is valuable. It's evidenced based! I'd love for you to take a look. 💜(More info in the comments)

This week I had the opportunity to present my Strengths Through the Decades workshop at the Oaklyn Senior Center. One of my favorite messages from this workshop is that our strengths don't fade away as we age. In many ways, they become even more important. Strengths like kindness, perseverance, gratitude, hope, humor, and perspective can help boost wellbeing and navigate life's challenges. Research suggests that identifying and using our strengths is associated with greater well-being and life satisfaction. A special thank you to Lisa for her encouragement and support. It was wonderful having her there.

Sometimes I hear women say, "I know what I should be doing. I just can't seem to do it." I've been there and said those words myself. What I've learned is that when something that once felt easy becomes difficult, it isn't usually about motivation or even willpower. Sometimes we're carrying more than we realize; stress, poor sleep, caregiving, health challenges and major life transitions. If you're struggling, be gentle with yourself. You are carrying a lot. There may be more to the story than you can see right now.

This is a phrase we've all heard before, but sometimes the reminders we need most aren't the newest ones. When it comes to our health, we often focus on the end goal; getting stronger, exercising consistently, eating healthier, improve sleep. But those changes rarely happen through one big leap. More often, they begin with a small step: A short walk, 5 minutes of stretching, going to bed a little earlier, choosing to begin again after a setback. Small steps may not feel impressive in the moment, but they have a way of carrying us farther than we expect. What's one small step you're taking for your health this week?

This Pride Month, we celebrate the bravery, honesty, love, and hope that help people live fully as themselves. May we all find opportunities to lean into these strengths, in our relationships, our communities, and our daily lives. Pride Month, I celebrate the courage, resilience, and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community and remain committed to creating welcoming spaces for all.

Consider a shift in perspective. Sometimes the question isn't: "Why can't I get it together?" Sometimes the question is: "What am I carrying that is making this so hard?" What looks like a lack of motivation may actually be a loss of confidence in ourselves. The answer might change everything. 💜

Albert Bandura’s work on self-efficacy goes beyond simple confidence. Self-efficacy is the belief that you can take action and handle challenges, even when things feel difficult or unfamiliar. It’s not “I’m fearless.” It’s: “I believe I can figure this out.” And that belief can change everything.

This really lands because there’s so much truth in this experience (the menopause transition). It’s no surprise; our healthcare providers received surprisingly little education in menopause care. It’s no wonder many women experience a decline in confidence in midlife. Having the self-efficacy to manage this change with confidence is important for quality of life.

This week’s Osteoporosis Awareness Month theme is “sharing our stories.” When we talk openly about our experiences, we help others feel seen, understood, and less alone. Over the past few years, I’ve chosen to share parts of my own journey with bone health. I know firsthand how overwhelming and isolating bone health concerns can feel. One of the reasons I speak openly about my own experience is because I want other women to know they are not alone in this. I shared my story in a blog post, (linked in the comments.)Through my yoga workshops and series I've met many women navigating this journey. Community is powerful.
