Ujjayi breath, or “victorious breath,” is a yogic breathing technique used during yoga that involves a slight constriction in the back of the throat, creating an oceanic, whispering sound as air passes through the vocal cords. To practice, sit comfortably, close your mouth, and take deep, slow breaths through your nose, applying GENTLE constriction to the back of the throat to create a soft “HA” sound. This technique helps to synchronize movement and breath, increases focus, builds internal heat, and promotes relaxation. The deep, rhythmic breathing supports the parasympathetic nervous system, fostering relaxation and stress relief.
How many times do you remember to breath consciously during practice?
