This week in Washington D.C., I joined colleagues from across the country to advocate on Capitol Hill, for expanded access to Medical Nutrition Therapy.

🤝 We met with congressional offices to advance policies, strengthen nutrition, care, and improve patient outcomes.

👩🏻‍⚕️🍎Medical Nutrition Therapy is an evidence base nutrition intervention. That’s supports chronic disease management, improves health outcome, and reduces health care costs- yet access remains limited for many individuals who need them.

🏥🍏Advancing access to nutrition care is essential to building a more effective and patient-centered healthcare system.

I am proud to represent Registered Dietitians and the patients we serve in these conversations.

I had the privilege to pin my recent intern at her dietetic internship graduation. Being a preceptor to future dietitians and helping to grow the future of the profession of nutrition and dietetic is an important responsibility I choose to take on.

Did you know that in order to become a registered dietitian, students must complete their academic course work and earn a Masters degree in nutrition. They must also complete a minimum of 1,000 hours of supervised training in an accredited ACEND program. Preceptors of this accredited program must be a registered dietitian with an active license (license varies on specific state licensure regulations).
Supervised practice hours are divided up among various settings, such as healthcare facilities to provide a combination of clinical training in adult and pediatric populations and food service management. They also get trained in long term care facilities and work with specialities like oncology, diabetes, hemodialysis, bariatrics, sports nutrition, eating disorders and weight loss.
