Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water. But they weren't just writing another nu‑metal banger – they were crafting the theme song for Mission: Impossible 2. 😤

Driven by a reimagined riff of Lalo Schifrin‘s iconic Mission: Impossible theme, “Take a Look Around” is a defiant, introspective anthem. Fred Durst channels the energy of his detractors into a chorus that still resonates today: “I know why you wanna hate me / 'Cause hate is all the world has ever seen lately.”

Chart performance: 📈

· 🇬🇧 #3 on the UK Singles Chart (their first single release in the UK)
· 🏆 #1 on Iceland and Portugal, #2 in Finland and Spain, #3 in Italy
· 🎸 #12 on the US Billboard Active Rock chart
· 🏅 Grammy nomination for Best Hard Rock Performance (2001)

The video: 🎬
Directed by Fred Durst himself, the clip is pure spy‑movie chaos: the band gets a mission to recover a briefcase from four suspicious guys in suits, leading to a full‑on diner takeover. It’s a perfect visual match for the song‘s blend of paranoia and swagger. 📹

As the lead single from Chocolate Starfish, “Take a Look Around” helped propel the album to #1 on the Billboard 200 and certified 6x Platinum in the US. More than a soundtrack cut, it became a cornerstone of Limp Bizkit‘s catalog – a reminder that even in the height of their fame, Durst and company weren’t afraid to look inward (and outward) at a world full of tension. 🙌

Does “Take a Look Around” still make you want to sneak into a top‑secret facility – or just turn up the volume in your car?

The man behind Korn’s signature guitar sound celebrates another year today. Born June 6, 1970, James “Munky” Shaffer is the co‑founder and sonic engine of one of the most influential bands in modern heavy music.

From the moment “Blind” erupted out of Bakersfield, Munky’s low‑tuned, groove‑heavy riffs rewrote the rulebook for metal guitar. His ability to blend crushing heaviness with unsettling atmospheres (“Falling Away From Me,” “Freak on a Leash”) gave Korn its terrifying, hypnotic edge.

Three decades later, he’s still experimenting, still pushing, and still refusing to repeat himself. Whether he’s layering feedback or locking in with Fieldy’s bass, Munky’s playing is the bedrock of a genre he helped invent. 🙌

What’s your favorite Korn track that showcases Munky’s unique riffing style?

Written for a 1999 Warner Bros. demo, “She Loves Me Not” was initially shelved because the band thought it was “too rock” for their breakthrough album Infest. But in 2002, they dusted it off, re‑recorded it, and unleashed it as the lead single from Lovehatetragedy.

A raw, half‑rapped anthem about betrayal, trust, and the painful realization that you can’t force someone to love you. Jacoby Shaddix’s impassioned delivery and the crushing chorus made it an instant fan favorite. 🙌

THE VIDEO: 🎬
Directed by David Meyers, the clip is a chaotic trip through a decaying theme park vandalism, fights, and subliminal messaging (a single frame of a face popping up three times). Pure early‑2000s edge. 📹

THE NUMBERS: 📈

· 🎤 #3 US Mainstream Rock, #5 Alternative Airplay
· 🎸 #14 UK, #20 Finland, #23 Ireland
· 🌍 Top 20 in the Netherlands & Switzerland

TRIVIA: 🧠

· The demo version sounded completely different (and was never officially released).
· The song appears on the NHL 2003 video game soundtrack.

Does “She Loves Me Not” still hit like a sledgehammer — or do you prefer deeper cuts from Lovehatetragedy? 🎤

Fred Durst might be quiet, but the numbers don’t lie.

In a new chat with Jackson Guitars, Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland declared that the band is currently as big or even bigger than during their late‑90s/early‑2000s heyday. He points to:

· 🔥 Viral TikTok clips introducing Bizkit to Gen Z
· 🔥 A massive crowd video from South America
· 🔥 Live shows where about 90% of fans are new and young

Borland also notes the band’s long‑term success: 40 million records sold and three Grammy nominations. But the energy now, he says, is fresh and hungry. 🙌

Did you discover Limp Bizkit through TikTok or back in the TRL days?

On this day in May 2008 (exactly May 17, 2008), Papa Roach put the finishing touches on “Hollywood Whore” at the infamous Paramour Mansion in Hollywood, California. It was the first track completed for their sixth studio album, Metamorphosis, and the lead single that would introduce a new, darker chapter for the band.

The song tears into the shallow, fame‑obsessed culture of the entertainment industry manufactured celebrities, empty glamour, and the toxic pursuit of stardom. The title, the lyrics, and the shocking music video were a direct middle finger to the Hollywood machine.

🎬 THE MOST DISTURBING PAPA ROACH VIDEO
Directed by Jesse Davey, the clip shows the band performing in front of a young woman (the “Hollywood whore”) whose face begins to decompose — blood pours from her eyes and mouth until it drowns the entire band. A brutal visual metaphor for the price of celebrity. 🩸👁️

Despite limited radio play (it was never officially sent to US radio), the single peaked at #37 on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Tracks and #139 on the UK Singles Chart. It was first released as a free video on the band’s website on October 26, 2008, followed by an exclusive EP for Canada and a digital download on iTunes two days later. 🔥

The track was produced by frontman Jacoby Shaddix himself (along with the rest of the band), marking the first time they took full production reins on an album. The song was also included as a bonus track on some special editions of Metamorphosis. 🙌

What do you think of Papa Roach’s brutal Hollywood satire still relevant today?

On November 16, 2018, the band released "Not The Only One" as the third single from their 10th album, Who Do You Trust? (January 18, 2019). 😤

A mid‑tempo rocker with emotionally charged lyrics, it directly addresses feelings of isolation, self‑doubt, and struggle. The powerful refrain “You’re not the only one” – serves as a reminder that personal demons are universal, and you are never truly alone. With over 12 million streams on Spotify and millions more on other platforms, it quickly became one of the band’s most popular live tracks.

Frontman Jacoby Shaddix opens up with raw honesty: “I was screwed up / I was angry at the world / I felt like I was a loser.” The song expands this confession into a shared human experience, acknowledging that “everybody got demons.” It’s a message of solidarity and hope, wrapped in the band’s signature heavy guitars and catchy melodies. 🙌

THE VIDEO: 🎬
Directed by Bryson Roatch, the official music video (released May 29, 2019) was shot in Aberdeen and Leeds during the band’s UK headline tour. Shaddix took a camera along on his bike rides through the scenic British countryside, capturing the perfect vibe for the track’s uplifting message. 📹

Hard times always come easy, but knowing “you’re not the only one” makes all the difference. What Papa Roach song has helped you feel less alone?

Produced by Mike Shinoda and Brad Delson, the track kicks off with warbling synths that echo Hybrid Theory, then builds into a massive, melancholic chorus. Chester Bennington reminds us: “You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone.”

The song hit #1 on Billboard’s Active Rock chart, #3 on the US Mainstream Rock Songs chart, and cracked the Top 10 on rock radio worldwide. In Germany, the single peaked at #24 on the official charts and was released as a CD single on the same day it arrived in Switzerland.

A haunting music video directed by Joe Hahn and shot entirely on green screen – was nominated for Best Rock Video at the 2014 MTV VMAs. The song also appeared on the Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark soundtrack. 🎬

On May 25, 2012, Serj Tankian released the official music video for “Figure It Out,” the lead single from his third solo album, Harakiri.

An uptempo, hook‑driven rock cut with spoken‑word verses and an unapologetically explicit chorus. Serj described it as “a comical political song about abusive capitalism and the differences created in economic stature.” The refrain says it all: “CEOs are the disease.”

THE VIDEO: 🎬
Directed by Ara Soudjian, the clip cuts between Serj performing with his solo band and footage of corporate bankers splashing champagne at a bailout party. Eventually, Serj crashes the celebration – busting down the doors and waging a one‑man class war in the boardroom. It’s raw, in‑your‑face, and still painfully relevant. 📹

Harakiri dropped on July 10, 2012 via Serjical Strike/Reprise. The album went on to top the Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart and land at #1 in Greece. $2 from every pre‑order was donated to fight global hunger. 🙌

The next chapter of Disturbed is shaping up to be something special.

Frontman David Draiman has broken his silence on the band’s upcoming follow‑up to 2022’s Divisive. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he teased:

“I’ve had a lot of time to go over these last songs we’ve written. Took time away, came back to them, and fell in love with them all over again. Diverse, fresh, and powerful. It’ll be some time… but I can’t wait for these songs to see the light of day. I think everyone will be pleasantly… surprised.”

The band has already released one standalone single, “I Will Not Break” (February 2025), their first via their own label, Mother Culture Records. Guitarist Dan Donegan has confirmed that “a bunch of material” was recorded in the fall of 2024 enough for a full album.

While details on a release date remain under wraps, Draiman’s enthusiasm is unmistakable. The band is taking their time, but when they return, it sounds like they’ll be hungrier than ever. 🙌

What are you hoping to hear on Disturbed’s next album a return to the raw aggression of The Sickness or more experimental, melodic anthems? 🎤

Born May 30, 1964, Tom Morello didn’t just play riffs he weaponized them. From the thunderous drop of “Killing in the Name” to the futuristic funk of “Cochise,” he made his guitar scream like a jet engine and weep like a blues ghost.

THE LEGACY:

· 🎸 Co‑founded Rage Against the Machine (1991) and Audioslave (2001)
· 🏆 4x Grammy winner, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee (2023 with RATM)
· 🎤 Political activist, DJ, and comic book writer (yes, he wrote Orchid for Dark Horse)
· 🌍 His “Arm the Homeless” guitar is as famous as his riffs

That stuttering, feedback‑drenched intro to “Bulls on Parade” sounds like a malfunctioning army radio about to explode. 🐂🔥
