This is a surgical operation of removing the vitreous humor from the eyeball (vitrectomy). The vitreous humor is a clear gel-like substance that occupies the space behind the lens and in front of the retina at the back of the eye, allowing light to pass through the lens to the retina and helping the eye to keep its round shape. This procedure was performed due to a lens dislocation.

This is a case of a 16 year old girl after getting severe sunburns while snorkeling!

A teenager has shared photos of her agonizing giant balloon-shaped blisters after getting sunburned while snorkeling on holiday in Cuba.

She says she had been wearing sunscreen but just an hour was long enough for the tropical rays to cook her fair skin.
To make matters even worse, she had to take a nine-hour flight back to the UK the next day.
Images posted show that her blisters were so bad that they visibly stuck out underneath her T-shirt.

She explained: “I was snorkeling for one hour and my back was showing, but I didn’t realize my back was burning and I did wear suncream. I’ve blistered like that because the sun was very hot in Cuba on Tuesday and I have very fair skin.” The last photo was taken a few days later, after the blisters have popped, showing good healing of the burned area.

This patient is having her tonsils removed due to recurrent strep throat.
Each tonsil sits on top of a muscle, and removing the tonsil exposes and traumatizes that muscle. The procedure can be performed in several ways, but the underlying muscle is disturbed in all of them.
Because that same muscle is used for talking, swallowing, and breathing, significant pain after a tonsillectomy is common and unavoidable.

A 32‐year‐old woman with an unremarkable medical history, who failed to conceive after 3 years of trying, was diagnosed with BO hemorrhagic cysts. The couple was offered ART. In the first cycle of in‐vitro fertilization (IVF), eight oocytes were collected. This first attempt was unsuccessful and embryo transfer resulted in miscarriage after 4 weeks. A new attempt at IVF was made 6 months after the first cycle. Eight oocytes were obtained and fertilized, resulting in three embryos. Two blastocysts were transferred. Transvaginal ultrasound examination at 6 weeks showed two uterine sacs, each containing two embryos. The couple was informed on the maternal and fetal risks of a quadruplet pregnancy and counseled on the possibility of fetal reduction, which was declined. During first‐trimester ultrasound examination, anatomy of all four fetuses was apparently normal. Cervical cerclage (cervix is closed) was performed at 16 weeks for the prevention of preterm delivery and vaginal progesterone was prescribed at 24 weeks. MRI was performed at 26 weeks due to difficulty in evaluating complete fetal anatomy with ultrasound, and 3D virtual and physical models were constructed using the data. Cesarean section was performed at 32 weeks due to uterine contractions and dyspnea, delivering four male babies. Apgar scores at 1 and 5 min were 9 or 10 in all neonates. Two neonates were discharged from the hospital 34 days after delivery and the other two at 36 days after delivery.

The trachea, colloquially called the windpipe, is a cartilaginous tube that connects the larynx to the bronchi of the lungs, allowing the passage of air, and so is present in almost all air-breathing animals with lungs. The trachea extends from the larynx and branches into the two primary bronchi. At the top of the trachea the cricoid cartilage attaches it to the larynx. The trachea is formed by a number of horseshoe-shaped rings, joined together vertically by ligaments over their substance and by the trachealis muscle at their ends. The epiglottis closes the opening to the larynx during swallowing.
The trachea begins to form in the second month of development. It is lined with an epithelium that has goblet cells which produce protective mucins. An inflammatory condition, also involving the larynx and bronchi, called croup can result in a barking cough. A tracheotomy is often performed for ventilation in surgical operations where needed. Intubation is also carried out for the same reason by the inserting of a tube into the trachea.

The word “trachea” is used to define a very different organ in invertebrates than in vertebrates. Insects have an open respiratory system made up of spiracles, tracheae, and tracheoles to transport metabolic gases to and from tissues.

Pilot shows a heart being transported!
A heart on the move — literally beating inside a box!
This is a donor heart, kept in a viable, beating state inside a specialized box as it travels to transform a life. It is carried in the TransMedics Organ Care System, which marks a major advancement in organ preservation for transplantation.
Traditionally, donor hearts have been transported in a static, cold-storage environment, which can cause ischemic injury and compromise the organ’s viability. In contrast, this machine enables dynamic, ex vivo perfusion, where the heart is maintained at body temperature and continuously supplied with warm, oxygenated, nutrient-rich blood — closely mimicking normal physiological conditions.
This normothermic perfusion helps preserve the heart’s function by preventing cellular damage caused by lack of oxygen (ischemia) and minimizing the harmful effects of cold storage. By optimizing organ function during transport, the system extends the allowable time for transplantation, making it possible to match more donors with suitable recipients. It also provides real-time monitoring of key parameters such as heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels, ensuring the organ remains in optimal condition throughout the journey.
The use of the TransMedics system has been shown to improve outcomes in heart transplantation, reducing the risk of post-transplant complications and enhancing long-term graft function. This innovation represents a remarkable leap forward in organ transplantation, expanding the potential for life-saving interventions.

The most detailed view of a human cell to date is the
“Cellular landscape cross-section through a eukaryotic cell”, a 3D model created by Evan Ingersoll and Gael McGill. This visualization combines data from multiple scientific techniques, including X-ray, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and cryoelectron microscopy, to represent the cell’s intricate structures and molecular choreography. Another recent and highly detailed effort is the comprehensive map of the U2OS cell created by researchers at UC San Diego and Stanford University, which uses Al and advanced imaging to reveal protein functions.
