As I went to pick a photo from my birth album, I clicked on this one and immediately teared up. This is my husband carrying me to bed an hour after giving birth. The trust I put into him in this moment was enormous. Maybe 30 minutes after giving birth I passed out 😳…
But let’s reverse a little bit. This birth story is crazy 😱 I gave birth at home to my baby who was breech! Around 33 weeks I could feel baby’s head above my belly button and knew she wasn’t in an optimal position. So for 6 weeks I did EVERYTHING to get her to flip. I did spinning babies positions, chiropractor appointments using the websters method, Moxi, acupuncture and finally even tried a gentle ECV that “failed” meaning she wasn’t turning and we weren’t going to force her.
Obviously this brought up a lot of fear I had to fight through and a lot of surrendering. So in my state, most midwives don’t deliver breech babies. I had to hire an additional midwife to attend my birth who was legally able to and had the experience to, deliver a breech baby.
My contractions started at 11:45 on a Sunday night and for two hours I was honestly skeptical that I was really in labor. But they never let up 😆 so clearly I was. Being this was my second baby, I anticipated my labor being much shorter than my first (but anything is shorter than 75 hours lololol). By 4am I called the midwives to come over. By 5am, a leg emerged 😱 it was the craziest thing. I didn’t end up pushing her fully out until almost 8am.
I had done it! I delivered my baby breech safely with an 8 hour labor ☺️ I was so so relieved I didn’t have to go to the hospital for a c-section. It was so important to me that I kept antibiotics away from my baby so she can develop a healthy immune system. Now back to passing out…
So during labor and after I lost a lot of blood. And I passed out trying to get out of the birth tub for a couple of seconds. I stayed on the floor eating food and drinking electrolytes for a while until my midwives suggested I move to the bed. I was terrified of getting up but also nervous to be picked up. Eventually I decided my husband carrying me was my best option. (Story to be continued…)
