The left is what St John’s wort looks like when it’s harvested. Beautiful small yellow flowers. The right is the color after it sits in menstruum for 24 hours. Menstruum is the liquid that the herbs are extracted into, in this case grain alcohol. The red color is from the active constituents, hypericin, hyperforin, and psuedohypericin, which are also what make the extract red. This plant must be used fresh to have these constituents.

I just love watching the magic of this plant. The little yellow flowers turn the alcohol red immediately every time. Alchemical magic! The color
is from the constituent’s that drive the action.

Yesterday was the start of red clover season. What a perfect harvesting day!! You can find locally wildcrafted red clover in our Nutritea and Estrotonic tincture. I just love the little dash of sweetness in the flavor profile.

First harvest of the year!! Pasque flower. I just love the purple velvety leaves.

Happy to see the Solomon seal popping up! Last spring I was able to harvest the bed for the first time. i seems to be growing back quite well. Solomon seal is a moistening herb used to support musculoskeletal issues.

First Pulsatilla flower is blooming!! I love how fuzzy the flower heads are. This is a great plant for extreme emotions. It’s a low dose botanical so it’s usually used in combination with other nervines. This is in the new bed I put in last summer.

Yay!! Welcome back plant babies!! So happy to see you all!! It’s so wonderful to have the garden showing back up with all the variety of spring green.
Nettles, valerian, cleavers, Bellis perennis, wood betony, motherwort, lemon balm, catnip and mullein.

I am so happy to see the garlic has sprouted. Not to mention most of the snow has now melted.
