A Father’s Day Story- When My Dad Was Told There Were No Other Options

With Father’s Day approaching, I’d like to share my father’s story-

My dad has been a Type 1 diabetic since childhood and has depended on insulin for most of his life. Several years ago, he began noticing strange lines appearing in his vision. Concerned, he visited his eye doctor and was diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy- a condition in which damaged blood vessels in the retina can leak blood and threaten his vision.

His doctor explained that bleeding was occurring inside his eye and performed a laser procedure to stop it. For a while, the treatment worked. But over the next few years, the bleeding returned again and again, requiring multiple laser procedures.

Then came a turning point.

About three years ago, after another episode of bleeding, his doctor told him that laser treatments were no longer an option. The next step would be monthly injections directly into his eye.

He underwent the procedure ONCE.

Afterward, he called me and said, “I’m never doing THAT again. Is there anything you can do to help me?”

Of course!

I performed bioenergetic testing to gain a deeper understanding of what was happening in his body and his eyes. Based on those findings, I created a customized remedy specifically for him. We also added a carefully selected homeopathic protocol and targeted nutritional and supplemental support designed to address the underlying imbalances contributing to his condition.

What happened next was remarkable!

Nearly three years later, he has not experienced another retinal bleed!

At his most recent eye appointment (a few days ago) his doctor told him that not only was there no sign of diabetic retinopathy, but that his vision continues to improve with each visit!

As a practitioner, stories like this remind me why I do what I do. While conventional medicine certainly has its place, there is tremendous value in looking beyond symptoms and supporting the body’s ability to heal and restore balance.

My father’s experience is a powerful reminder that sometimes there are options worth exploring when it feels like you’ve reached the end of the road.

This Father’s Day, I’m grateful for the opportunity to have helped my dad preserve not only his eyesight, but also his quality of life.

Feverfew! One of my favorite plants!

Feverfew has often been used to treat the same problems one would use aspirin for, particularly arthritis, fever, and migraine headaches. As feverfew gains in popularity, it is being used increasingly for asthma, dysmenorrhea, and inflammatory skin problems.

Feverfew helps migraine headaches by reducing two chemicals in the body which, in excess, are believed to be responsible for the intense head pain, nausea and light-sensitivity associated with migraines: prostaglandin, which causes inflammation; and serotonin, produced by blood platelets, which constricts and then dilates arteries. Researchers have confirmed feverfew’s ability to inhibit the formation of prostaglandins affiliated with pain and inflammation. Feverfew also slows the rate at which blood clots, which is believed to play a part in at least some migraine headaches. Furthermore, feverfew has been shown to prevent enzyme and histamine release from immune cells, which has been linked with inflammation, and may explain the herb’s traditional use for treating arthritis.

Initial studies showed feverfew, taken twice a day, relieved the pain of migraine headaches and often completely prevented them!

Besides headache-relief, feverfew reduces fever and cools the body. Feverfew has been used for centuries to promote menstruation, as well as stimulate the uterus to expel the placenta following difficult deliveries. Feverfew is also recommended as an antispasmodic and diuretic.

According to research, the primary active ingredient in feverfew is the sesquiterpene lactone, parthenolide.

(And they look so beautiful paired with peonies in a bouquet!)
