A week or so ago I posted on my personal page reflecting on the vows "in sickness and in health," and how we have put that in to practice time after time in ways we have never imagined.
Today, on this Valentines Day, is another example of truly living out in sickness and in health.
Gideon is still admitted at the children's hospital. His sepsis came back clear no infection. However, since he has been throwing up so much he is loosing a lot of electrolytes and his body isn't replacing them fast enough, even on IV fluids. His kidneys just struggle so much. His sodium levels are still higher than they should be, putting him at high risk of more seizures, among other issues.
We made some changes today to add more free water in hopes of getting him more hydrated to balance out the electrolytes and lower the sodium. Some concerns were also raised about his calcium levels so additional testing is in process.
Originally, the plan was to discharge today after getting a negative sepsis rule out but Gideon is making it clear that he needs more time to recover. The doctors are expecting him to be in until at least Wednesday, possibly Thursday.
We spent our day worshiping our Savior, calling daddy and siblings, opening valentines from the nurses and playing with play doh, even making a rose.
It wasn't a perfect valentines day by any means but it just gives another perspective on what is really important in this life. We are both so ready to be home with the rest of the family!
