Froedtert Hospital is honored to be named the 30th Microsite Center of Excellence (MCE) by the National Kidney Registry (NKR), recognizing our commitment and success in helping kidney transplant candidates find living donors.

Through the NKR Microsite Program, our patients receive a personalized website, donor-search coaching and resources to help them share their story and reach potential living donors within their community and beyond.

This recognition reflects the dedication of our Kidney Transplant team, our patients and the donor champions who help make living donation possible. We’re incredibly proud of the work happening every day to expand access to living donor kidney transplantation and help more patients move closer to transplant.

One person’s decision to give can completely change another person’s life. John’s story is such a beautiful example of the generosity, courage and selflessness that make living donation so powerful.

August is National Minority Donor Awareness Month (NMDAM) — a time to raise awareness about the urgent need for organ, eye and tissue donation in diverse communities and to inspire hope through the gift of life.

Created to shine a light on health disparities and improve access to transplantation, NMDAM reminds us that while more than 100,000 people are currently waiting for a lifesaving transplant, 60% of those waiting are from racial and ethnic minority communities. Tragically, 17 people lose their lives every day because the organ they need doesn't come in time.

The need is especially great because conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease disproportionately affect many minority communities, leading to higher rates of organ failure. At the same time, Black transplant candidates often wait longer for kidney, heart and lung transplants than non-Black candidates, highlighting the importance of education, awareness and increased donation.

One of the most powerful ways to make a difference is through living donation. A living donor can shorten the wait, improve transplant outcomes and give someone the chance to spend more time with the people they love.

This month, we invite you to learn more, start a conversation with your family and consider how you can help create a future where every patient has an equitable opportunity to receive the lifesaving transplant they need.

🎉 Celebrating 25 years of compassion, comfort and community! 💙

Members of our transplant team were honored to attend the 25th Anniversary celebration of Kathy's House and recognize the incredible impact this special organization has had on patients and families.

For many of our transplant patients, the journey requires traveling far from home for evaluation, transplant surgery and follow-up care. Kathy's House provides so much more than a place to stay — it offers a welcoming home, a supportive community and peace of mind during some of life's most challenging moments.

We are grateful for our partnership with Kathy's House and for the unwavering dedication of their staff, volunteers, donors and supporters who have made the past 25 years possible.

Congratulations on this remarkable milestone, and thank you for all you do to care for the families we serve. Here's to many more years of hope, healing and hospitality. ❤️🏡

Today our transplant team is at Fondy’s Farmers Market talking with community members about something that truly starts long before transplant — healthy food choices.

The foods we eat can have a profound impact on our overall health and play an important role in preventing or managing conditions like diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease and heart disease.

Our greatest hope is that one day fewer people will need our transplant program because more lives are protected through prevention and healthy living. Until that day comes, we’re committed to being there every step of the journey — supporting our community through education, prevention, treatment and when needed, the gift of transplantation.

Because caring for our community begins where health begins.

We are incredibly proud of our Froedtert & MCW Transplant team for representing our program at the 2026 American Transplant Congress (ATC)!

Our physicians shared their expertise on the national stage through an oral presentation and eight poster presentations, showcasing research that is helping advance the field of transplantation.

We had two oral presentations:
• "More NRP, Less DGF: Improved Outcomes in DCD Kidney Transplantation," presented by Drs. Asassfeh, Arpali, Dunn, Cooper and Rawashdeh.
• "Impact of National Policy Announcements on Deceased Donor Offers: FMCW QI Analysis," presented by Drs. Sultan, Cooper, Dunn, Dhingra, Thomas, Mascaro and Saeian.

Among our eight poster presentations were:
• "Undersized BSA Mismatch Predicts Poor Outcomes in Kidney Transplantation," presented by Drs. Asassfeh, Arpali, Dunn, Cooper and Rawashdeh.
• "Comparison of Long-Term Outcomes between Liver Transplantation and Liver Resection for Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma," presented by Drs. Kimura, Asassfeh, Raigani, Cooper and Prasad.

We are also especially proud to celebrate Dr. Ty Dunn, who received ATC's Member Award: Pancreas Champion in recognition of her outstanding leadership and contributions to the Kidney-Pancreas Community of Practice. This well-deserved honor reflects her dedication to advancing transplant care and improving outcomes for patients nationwide.

Day 4 of the Transplant Games brought one of the most meaningful moments of the week: the Donor Tribute Ceremony.

Today, Team Wisconsin honored the organ, eye and tissue donors whose gifts made every event, every medal and every celebration possible. We also recognize the donor families whose courage and generosity continue to give others a second chance at life.

The Transplant Games are about more than competition — they are a celebration of life, legacy and gratitude.
