Did you know?

* Turning age 65 does not automatically mean a person must enroll in Medicare Part A and Part B if they are still actively working and covered under an employer group health plan.

* A person may be able to delay Medicare Part B without penalty when:

* They are actively employed at age 65.
* Their employer has 20 or more employees.
* They have credible employer medical coverage.
* They have credible prescription drug coverage through the employer plan.

* In this situation, the employer plan is usually considered the primary insurance, so Medicare enrollment can often be postponed until retirement or loss of employer coverage.

* Delaying Part B can help avoid paying the monthly Medicare Part B premium while still covered under the employer plan.

* Credible prescription drug coverage allows a person to delay enrolling in Medicare Part D without a late enrollment penalty.

* Some people choose to enroll in Medicare Part A only at age 65 because:

* Part A is usually premium-free for most people.
* It can help cover inpatient hospital costs after the employer insurance pays.
* It may reduce some out-of-pocket hospital expenses.
* It can act as secondary coverage to the employer plan.

* Important caution:

* People contributing to a Health Savings Account (HSA) generally should not enroll in Medicare Part A because Medicare enrollment stops HSA contribution eligibility.

A true story and an important reminder…

A client recently had a Medicare Advantage plan that worked well for them. Their doctors were covered, their medications were affordable, and the plan was stable for 2026.

Then they received a call from a random 1-800 number. The agent on the phone made promises, lied, used sales tactics, and convinced them to switch plans.

What happened next?
❌ Medication costs doubled
❌ Coverage changed
❌ The 800 number “agent” disappeared and could not be reached

Thankfully, a LOCAL Medicare agent (Me) stepped in face-to-face to help fix the situation.

Folks, please be careful who you trust with your Medicare health insurance decisions to. Not every person calling you has your best interest at heart. Some are simply trying to just make a sale, even if it hurts you financially.
