Summer sun is here, and with it is an increased risk of skin cancer! ☀️

While we’re all about enjoying the warm weather, it’s also the perfect time to remind ourselves that skin cancer doesn’t just show up where the sun shines. It can hide in places you’d never expect, like between your toes.

While it’s less common, melanomas and other skin cancers in this area can go unnoticed, which means they’re often caught later when treatment is more difficult.

‼️ Here’s why it’s important to check:

Melanoma (the most serious type of skin cancer) can appear anywhere on the body, including the soles of your feet and even between your toes. It’s not just about sun exposure; this type can develop in areas with little to no sunlight.

Acral lentiginous melanoma (ALM) is a type of melanoma that often shows up on the palms, soles, and between the toes. It’s more common in people with darker skin tones but can affect anyone.

Early detection saves lives!

Because these spots are often overlooked, foot melanomas are sometimes diagnosed at later stages, making them harder to treat.

What should you look for?
🔴 A new mole, dark spot, or patch of skin that looks different.
🔴 A sore that doesn’t heal.
🔴 Changes in an existing mole or spot.

Don’t ignore the signs! Check your feet regularly. If you notice anything unusual, see a dermatologist or podiatrist right away. The sooner it’s caught, the better the outcome. Our nurses perform thorough foot assessments during each visit, which can help ensure any suspicious moles are detected.
