Join the MPHA Health Equity Committee on Thursday, June 18, at 5:30 PM for a vital virtual session titled "Food for Thought: Addressing Occupational Violence in Grocery Stores in the Saint Paul Metropolitan Area."

MPHA Intern Sunniva Berg will share impactful research conducted with UFCW 1189 on metro-area grocery workers' experiences with workplace violence. This project, completed alongside co-intern Victoria Valentina through the Occupational Health Internship Program, bridges the gap between student research and the immediate needs of workers in high-hazard roles.

Learn about the challenges facing these essential community members and how we can advocate for safer, more equitable workplaces.

Speaker: Sunniva Berg (Policy & Advocacy & Health Equity Intern).

MPHA members & friends - see below for an advocacy opportunity from Protect Minnesota Wednesday, May 13 12 pm at the Capitol steps, and day of action on Thursday, May 14 10am.

Minnesota families shouldn’t have to turn grief into advocacy just to be heard. Every child deserves to come home safe — and every parent deserves peace of mind.

That’s why we’re showing up this week to demand action! Three ways for you to take action with us:

1️⃣ Resistance Sing In
Minnesota State Capitol Steps
Wednesday, May 13 at 12pm

2️⃣ Minnesota Day of Action
Minnesota State Capitol
Thursday, May 14 at 10am

*Wear red or orange and help fill the Capitol halls with a message lawmakers can’t ignore

3️⃣ Sign the Open Letter to House members

Because families shouldn’t have to make surviving gun violence part of their story. See you this week! 🧡🧡

A special shout-out to our INCREDIBLE Annual Conference Planning Committee!! was a massive success because of the time and effort you all put into making it happen! This could not have happened without you.

This year's conference was held in collaboration with the Minnesota Community Health Worker Alliance, for whom we are extremely grateful. Thank you to Holly Walters, Committee Co-chair, Liachia Thao, Committee Co-chair, and Merry Grande, our Executive Director, for leading us so well!!

We, of course, cannot forget our Governing Council members who supported us during the planning phase and all those who volunteered as table hosts, session facilitators, and Zoom moderators. Thank you to our partner, -SOPHE, for helping us with the continuing education credits for all our sessions.

YOU ALL made it happen! 👏👏👏

The last session of our 2025-2026 Public Health Matters Policy Forum Series is coming soon! If you have not secured your seat yet, this is your reminder to do so today!

The April forum will explore policy and social actions that have impacted our views about nutrition—everything from a new food pyramid and the definition of healthy eating to regulations around food additives. Are the changes we are experiencing based on fads or facts? Have we changed how we think about nutrition and our willingness to embrace new nutrition guidelines over time? How has nutritional status evolved in the US both locally and nationally? What does some of the most recent research tell us about nutrition?

As we announced earlier today, there has been a change to our closing keynote program. As we are workers, we are experts at 'pivoting,' and with the help of some incredible MPHA members, we put together a panel of local leaders who will speak on the future of public health and leadership in these times.

We will send a communication to all our attendees with more info about the session. So, keep an eye out!

A huge thank you to all the speakers who said yes to help close .
