Living bolder, finished my first-ever marathon!

It was good fun, proper struggle, and hard earned victory.

What did I learn from running a marathon? I learned the art of pursuit. Going after my dreams in such a way that I was the only one who could clock in, do the work, and listen to my body.

If I didn't track when I needed to slow down, manage pain, and recover during training, the marathon would've looked way different.

I learned pursuit is messy. It doesn't always come at the right time. Sometimes pursuit comes dressed in grief, hardship, and despair. Sometimes pursuit is managing the letdowns while still appreciating the chance to begin again.

Pursuit will make you appreciate the darkness, for out of it, there is light.

Pursuit is the ability to suspend, stretch, and soar.

What I've learned to trust is that pursuit takes a willingness of mind. It takes openness to see only a mere glimpse of the path and trust what's ahead.

What's for you cannot be denied. What's for you can be in reach.

I'll write more about this experience soon. Right now, it's restful days and celebrating the BIGNESS OF LITERALLY CHASING MY DREAMS this year in very open and loud ways.

I'm thankful for the people I knew and the strangers along the path. Whether you were watching in-person, online, or in spirit, I felt the love. Every encouraging word and deed brought me forward and closer to the finish line. Thank you.

South Minneapolis author Jocelyn McQuirter turned her son Kaiden’s joyful view of the world into her debut children’s book, “Biggest Rainbows in the Sky.”

Born during a time of pandemic isolation and civil unrest, the book captures the magic of bubbles, colors, and imagination as seen through a child’s eyes. McQuirter’s storytelling honors Black childhood, resilience, and the power of joy even in challenging times.

She launched the book locally at Bichota Coffee and has already spotted it in barbershops, salons, and hospital family rooms where families gather and share stories.

I took my passion and made it happen. 🫧

My debut children's book launch party brought the people, and with them — joy.

More than 85 books found new homes. New places to let little dreamers and those that love them (and use to be children) feel the wonder and possibility of childhood.

Thank you to all who came out and showed love. I thought I’d come down from the moon by now, but I’m still here. Absolutely in love with this moment.

In 2020, the year that felt like 10 years, I penned a story that allowed me to document the times. I was a tired new mom juggling a lot, and something about my toddler’s joy called me to write it down. Though years passed, I held onto the dream of one day seeing the story in print. In 2024, I found an exceptional illustrator, Suryaa Rajan who took my vision and made an absolute work of art.

Self-publishing’s been a wild ride, and I’m very thankful for my network who guided and in many cases are still guiding me down the path of purpose. Special thanks to Bichota Coffee for offering the space, Max, Eric, Yaya, Ruby, Tia Joy, and the many hands that offered ease to the evening.

He wasn’t childbirth, but listen, he knew how to deliver.

A carrier of good, bad, and the in-between.

Some people can spiral thoughts, and this one is for the mailman that stepped into my life and gave me something to talk about.

New post: Strong legs and a pension

Lately, I’ve been thinking about what it means to live backwards — not as a return to the past, but as a reclamation of purpose. A reset. A rebirth.

The old systems I built to survive?
They don’t serve me anymore.

The settings weren’t configuring like they use to.

The passwords don’t work — and maybe that’s the point.

New post on my new password for life. Check it out!

Bet on yourself. That’s it.

I have deep roots in Galveston Texas — the birthplace of Juneteenth.

My late grandfather James B. McQuirter was born on June 19 too. If not for his birth and him meeting my late grandmother, Lonnie Mae, and the connections made after on both sides, I wouldn't be here.

This year, I'm celebrating something in the ethos of my ancestor's wildest dreams. Coming soon: My debut children's book, titled: Biggest Rainbows in the Sky 🤩🥰🥳

Motherhood is an abyss.

An immeasurable path. Versed and unversed. Calm and chaos. It’s complex. Imagine the sights and sounds of this ever-shifting place. Expansive states of:

Joy
Mother wounds
Infertility
Grief and loss
Ego Death
Survival

Times like these, be resolved to go in grace and tenderness. Lean into the impermanence of life — raising a life — and the ways such life can raise you too if you let them.

The good human in my midst is a great teacher. I love the community building more free children.

Surrender and curiosity meet my gaze into the unknown. So much still to know and will never be known. I ascend to accept change is constant. When it comes, let me find the current and move, ever-present with the waves.

Mama loves you cool kid.
