Funded by AWIN, GMIG is offering one $1,000 service trip mini-grant for international work, volunteer, or study experiences taking place January 1–December 31, 2026.
Eligible trips must include nutrition-related activities and serve low- and middle-income country (LMIC) populations — either through in-country service or domestically to refugee, asylum-seeking, or recent immigrant populations, with preference given to in-country LMIC service. Trips must partner with an in-country organization (NGO, Ministry of Health, educational institution, etc.), and applicants with non-nutrition-focused partners must incorporate a nutrition component. The service activity may count toward field or supervised practice hours. Grant funds cover international travel costs (visa fees, immunizations, modest lodging), transportation, meals, and educational materials not covered by the partnering organization.
Grantee Expectations:
Grantees are expected to actively participate in nutrition-related programming, research, education, and/or collaboration as directed by their coordinating organization, focusing on service rather than tourist activities during work hours.
Grantees must establish SMART goals for their experience and, within three months of the trip's conclusion, submit an article with photos summarizing their experience, outcomes, and learning applications for both the GMIG newsletter (or Academy publication) and the AWIN newsletter and website; photos must not identify project participants.
Grantees may also fulfill the GMIG requirement by presenting a formal webinar open to GMIG members. Timely submission of expense receipts for reimbursement is required.
