Honoring Wellness, Community & Connection
As we move into the season of gratitude, I want to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation to each of my clients. The work you do in therapy—the vulnerability, the courage, the willingness to grow—is not small. Your effort and commitment inspire the mission of Solution Based Wellness every single day.
This season can be meaningful, but it can also be overwhelming. Holidays often bring increased expectations, emotional intensity, and stress. Remember: taking care of yourself is not selfish—it’s essential.
Below are some simple, effective tools to support your mental and emotional wellbeing throughout the Thanksgiving season.
🧠Mental Health Snapshot: You’re Not Alone!
Holidays can heighten emotional distress. A few statistics to normalize your experience:
• 38% of people report increased stress during the holidays.
• 64% of individuals with mental health conditions say symptoms worsen this time of year.
• 1 in 5 adults experience heightened loneliness, even when surrounded by others.
• Finances, social obligations, and family dynamics remain the top three stressors.
If you’re feeling “off,” more tense, or more emotional than usual—your nervous system is responding to real seasonal pressure. Give yourself grace.
🌿Tips & Tricks for Thanksgiving Season Self-Care
1. Protect Your Energy
You don’t need to commit to everything.
Say “yes” only to what aligns with your emotional capacity.
2. Choose Your Boundaries Ahead of Time
Plan what topics, people, or situations you do not want to engage with this holiday.
It is okay to say:
“I’m not comfortable discussing that today.”
3. Create Small Moments of Peace
• A 5-minute grounding exercise
• Breathing/box breathing
• A brief walk after dinner
• Sitting quietly before the day begins
Micro-moments matter.
4. Eat, Rest, and Hydrate Intentionally
Blood sugar crashes and exhaustion can intensify emotional reactions.
Give your body what it needs.
5. Manage Expectations
You are not responsible for everyone else’s emotions, reactions, or holiday experience.
You can only manage your own.
6. Have an Exit Plan
If gatherings become overwhelming, you are allowed to leave early, step outside, or take space when needed.
7. Lean Into Gratitude—In a Realistic Way
Gratitude does not mean ignoring pain or pretending everything is fine.
Try this instead:
“Today, I’m grateful for one small thing that feels grounding.”
Simple, attainable, authentic.
đź’› A Gentle Reminder
Healing is not linear.
Progress does not disappear because a stressful season shows up.
You are doing the work.
You are allowed to protect your peace.
And you deserve support—during the holidays and beyond.
