Inside You Baby’s Umbilical Cord

Within your baby’s umbilical cord are 2 arteries and 1 vein (unless you’re part of the 1% who had a single artery cord).

When pregnancy begins, there are 2 veins, but by around 4 weeks gestation the right vein begins to close up and stop functioning. Around 7 weeks gestation it will have disappeared completely. The remaining vein continues to carry oxygenated blood and nutrients from the placenta to the baby.

The arteries are close together and look like a pair. Their job is to remove waste and deoxygenated blood away from the baby and back through the placenta so it can be excreted through the maternal body system.

Can you tell which holes are the arteries and which one is the vein?

A few new books for the library. The top 2 I got at The Holistic Birth Bag conference. What’s funny is I was going to order the Salt book when I got the bottom 3 books, but decided to wait and save it for my next order. Then I ended up getting it anyway 🤪. Little weird things like that are my reminders that I’m still on the right path. Or at least going in the right direction. I lost the path awhile ago 🤣🤣.
