•Affirmation + Movement Cards for Kids •
I created this full set of cards to help kids build confidence, emotional regulation, and positive self-talk...all through simple, playful movement.
These are perfect for:
• morning routines
• transitions
• classrooms or therapy groups
• or just getting the wiggles out at home
or how you used them in your day
If you’d like the printable version + instructions, just comment or DM “CARDS” and I’ll send them full 24 deck over!
If you try them, I’d LOVE to hear: 👉 which card your kids picked
👉 or how you used them in your day.

In what feels like day 100 of being inside because it's too cold outside... we've now used our Animal Movement Cards as a charade game!

If you have the cards...give it a try! Let them pick a card, and act out the animal. If you need hints ask them for a sound.

This works super well after having used them as the directions say on the card so that they are familiar with the animal sounds and movements! I was amazed when my 3 year old accurately acted out "Peacock." 😅

Hey friends!

There are a few new faces here so I wanted to introduce myself again!

I’m Brooke, a certified recreational therapist (CTRS) and the person behind Get Outside the Box. I love creating playful and calming activities for all ages, kids, adults, families, you name it!

This page is my little corner to share ideas, connect with you, and keep building my CTRS practice along the way. 💛
I'm a real person here and I’d love your questions, comments, feedback, or even just a “hi!”

Are you here for yourself, as a parent, teacher or therapist? I'd love to know!

Pick a Path & Move Your Way

Screenshot this for those moments when your kid has a lot of energy and you’re out of ideas.

You can use this as a quick game or a way to transition from activities like playing -> brushing your teeth.

Try asking:
“Do you want to walk like a giant or crawl like a mouse?”

Let them choose the movement, then use it to travel to the next room, the couch, the kitchen, or wherever you’re headed.

Recreational therapy benefits:
— Gross motor movement
— Body awareness
— Decision-making through choice
— Self-regulation and energy release

Simple movement. Real benefits. Low effort.

🎨 Color + Move Cards
A super simple movement game you can play anywhere.
How to play:
1. Pick a card.
2. Say the color out loud.
3. Do the action on the card while you go find something that matches the color.
4. Bring it back and pick a new card.

That’s it. No prep, no setup, lots of movement.
This is great for quick brain breaks, indoor energy release, or when kids need to move but you don’t want to think too hard about what to do next.

Feel free to save this post and print the cards if you’d like.

💛 Recreational therapy focus:
Color recognition, gross motor movement, following directions, visual scanning, attention & focus, and playful connection.
If you try it, tell me which color was the biggest hit.

This week’s reminder is simple... taking care of you helps everyone around you, too. 💛

Sometimes self-care doesn’t look big or fancy. It might just be drinking your coffee while it’s still warm, taking five quiet minutes outside, or saying “no” when you need to protect your peace.

What’s one small thing you’ve done this week that helped you recharge? I’d love to hear in the comments.

My small big win was going to bed at 10pm last night 🏆.

At Get Outside the Box, I share recreational therapy-inspired ideas every Wednesday.. little ways to connect, move, and play that make life feel a bit lighter. Ideas could be coping mechanisms, because let's be real, life is hard. Or ideas could be different ways to approach an educational scenario and finding a new way to learn. Let’s keep building a space that reminds us we don’t have to do it all alone.
