Methylation isn't a one-nutrient fix.
Most people hear "methylation" and jump straight to folate or methylfolate. But your B vitamins don't work alone, they work synergistically.
Here's what often gets missed:
B12 and riboflavin are frequently the better starting point — not folate
In most B complexes and multivitamins, B12 is dosed higher than folate for a reason: megadosing folate without enough B12 can actually contribute to a B12 deficiency
Food first, folate-rich, B12-rich, and B6-rich foods (and cutting back on refined carbs, sugar, and seed oils) lay the foundation before supplementing
If you do add a methylated B multi, start low. Going in too high, even without a known methylation sensitivity, can leave you feeling worse, especially if there's underlying toxic overload or oxidative stress
The real question isn't "should I take methylfolate?" It's "does my body actually process methylation efficiently in the first place?"
That's not something you can guess from symptoms alone, it's in your genes.
Find out how your body handles methylation with a MaxGen Labs test kit. Our Works Test and MaxFunction panels both include MTHFR testing, so you get real data instead of a guessing game before you ever choose a supplement.
