Went to my first Bruce Springsteen concert and what an unforgettable time this past weekend! The music was incredible, the energy was high, and the crowd was electric. 🎸✨
However, I wanted to share a quick reality check. During one of the sets, I used my sound level meter app and saw that the instantaneous noise level hit a dangerous 100.4 dB(A)! This reading even flagged an "Overload" for the microphone.
At that level, irreversible hearing damage can start in less than 15 minutes of unprotected exposure. A standard concert duration can be 2-3 hours. Prolonged exposure can lead to noise-induced hearing loss or a constant ringing called tinnitus.

Hearing loss is often gradual and we may not notice it until it's significant. But the good news is that noise-induced hearing loss is preventable!
For future shows, make sure to bring some hearing protection! I found out that Madison Square Garden offers free hearing protection... all you have to do is ask one of the employees! Earplugs lower the volume to safer levels without sacrificing the music quality, so you can still enjoy the show to the fullest. 🎧
Let’s protect our hearing and keep enjoying live music for years to come! Did you know that concert noise was that loud?
