**Looking Back, Looking Ahead**

This month, we've explored confidence a little differently.
Not as something we force ourselves to feel.
But as something that can grow when we learn to listen to ourselves.

We talked about:
Calm before confidence.
Awareness before action.
Pausing instead of automatically reacting.
Recognizing what we need.
Trusting ourselves enough to choose.

And remembering, calm and strength can exist together.

As we move into October, I'd like to continue this conversation with another question:

**What are you ready to release?**

Not because you need to become a different version of yourself.

Perhaps simply because carrying everything you've been carrying leaves very little room for you.

October will be about making some of that room.

Room to breathe.
Room to listen.
Room to exhale.

I'll see you there. 🤍

You don't have to reach the point of complete exhaustion before you're allowed to need rest.

And you don't need to justify wanting a little space for yourself.

That's one of the reasons I created **The Exhale Retreat**.

October 23–25, we'll gather at Camp Allen for a weekend of gentle movement, mindfulness, rest, reflection, connection, and time away from the constant pull of everyday responsibilities.

Not a weekend to fix yourself.

Not another list of things to accomplish.

A weekend with room to breathe.

If you've been thinking about joining us, this is your invitation.

Sometimes we don't realize how much we're carrying until we finally have permission to put some of it down.

The responsibilities.

The decisions.

The schedules.

The needs of everyone around us.

Even the pressure we put on ourselves to keep doing, helping, managing, and holding everything together.

So today, I'm not going to ask what else you need to accomplish.

I'm going to ask something different:

**What are you ready to exhale?**

You don't need an answer immediately.

Just notice what comes up.

**Pause. Notice. Choose.**

It sounds simple.

But when we're accustomed to reacting quickly, pleasing other people, or pushing through our own discomfort, a pause can feel unfamiliar.

Try practicing it somewhere small this week.

Before automatically saying yes.

Before adding something else to your schedule.

Before dismissing what you're feeling.

Pause.

Notice what is happening inside you.

Then ask:

**What choices are available to me here?**

You may still choose exactly what you would have chosen before.

The difference is that you gave yourself a moment to participate in the decision.

That's a form of self-trust.

When you hear the word **calm**, what do you picture?

Peaceful?
Relaxed?
Quiet?

What about strong?

Calm doesn't mean that we never feel angry, afraid, uncomfortable, or uncertain.

And it doesn't mean becoming passive.

Sometimes calm gives us enough space to hear what those feelings are telling us.

Something isn't right.

I need more information.

I need some space.

I don't want to do this.

I need help.

**Calm doesn't take away your power.**

Sometimes it helps you access it.

Weekly awareness check-in...

Before you begin another week, take a moment to check in with yourself.

Not with your calendar.

Not with your to-do list.

With **you**.

What does your body feel like today?

What has taken a lot of your energy lately?

What has helped you feel more like yourself?

And what might you need a little more of this week?

You don't have to solve anything right now.

Just listen.

Sometimes knowing what we need is the first small step toward caring for ourselves differently.

Resilience includes knowing when to pause.

We often praise ourselves for pushing through.

Push through the fatigue.
Push through the stress.
Push through the discomfort.
Just get it done.

And sometimes we do need to keep going.

But resilience isn't always about how much we can tolerate.

Sometimes resilience means noticing that something needs to change.

A pause.
A boundary.
A different pace.
More support.
Rest.

Before you automatically push through today, try asking:

What do I actually need right now?

You don't have to immediately act on the answer.

Begin by noticing.

Before the new week begins, take a moment to notice.

If it feels comfortable, feel where your body is supported right now.

Notice your feet against the floor, your body against the chair, or whatever is beneath you.

You don't need to change your breath. Simply notice it.

Now allow your eyes to look around the space you're in.

Find one thing that feels pleasant, familiar, or steady.
Stay with it for a moment.

Then bring your attention back to yourself.

**What feels different now, even if the difference is very small?**

There is nothing you need to make happen. Simply notice.

**Awareness before action. Calm before confidence.**
