Nola's Gardening Dietitian From the swamps to the city helping folks discover a deeper connection with food, our health, and the world around us through nutrition education. Hi!

I’m Mallory Naquin, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and founder of NOLA’s Gardening Dietitian, a virtual wellness consulting practice. I am so excited to now be accepting new clients!! After graduating from Tulane, I began my career in dietetics by pursuing my passion for nutrition education. I served in AmeriCorps, where I developed and taught culinary programs. My role continued to grow at the

Edible Schoolyard, becoming an educator, site gardener, greenhouse manager, and Cafe Liaison. I taught nutrition, culinary, and regenerative agriculture in school gardens with pollinators, chickens, goats and a pot belly pig. I grew 1000’s of plants for acres of school gardens and their surrounding communities for almost a decade. Today, I continue to serve communities as a Louisiana Master Gardener where I create and maintain butterfly gardens and lead wildflower walks. I also teach STEM education and provide virtual nutrition consultations. I advance my ability to help clients with training and certifications in dietetics and nutrition coaching, gut health, sustainable food practices and dive deep into evidence based nutrient research. My passion is to help the community better understand our individual self, food and the world around us as an integral part of the seemingly complicated, joyful, grand act of nourishing ourselves. Teaching essential life tools, striving for balance with nature, and improving nutritional intake to achieve optimal health goals.

I’ve been accused of moseying multiple times in my life but these manatees don’t seem to mind 🥰 we could see this gentle giant coming from a mile away. We just stood still and they decided to grace us with their presence. Slow, steady, and incredibly grateful. soaking in the sun and salt

This dreamy lined seahorse decided to play with us in the Gulf! A rare sighting. They’re well camouflaged and usually clinging to seaweed. When this seahorse appeared in the waves it was easy to identify because their unique silhouette is unmistakable. It’s a big one too, max size is typically 7.5 inches. These specialized fish are listed as vulnerable. Every time we don’t use chemicals in our gardens and community gardens these are the gifts we’re protecting.

Birding with Orleans Audubon Society led by Dr. Peter Yaukey. I love a good adventure!! 6 hours of birding the lake reminded me how rewarding it can be to keep my heart open to experiencing a place from a different perspective. Friday night I got to be a birder and learned so much from the wealth of knowledge that was shared by Dr. Yaukey and other passionate folks working on their big year and bird lists. At sunset we got to witness these Purple Martins roost for the evening and it was like watching one of nature‘s most spectacular moments. These walks are free and open to everyone! 📸 Taylor Naquin

When you reach the end of the road you need a new mode of transportation. The Yankee Freedom III ferry sailed us half way to Cuba. Landing on Garden Key for the most unforgettable day exploring the . Named for its lack of fresh water and the creatures that once thrived here. We had a blast completing the Dry Tortugas National Park Junior Ranger Program and learning about the island’s unique history. Snorkeled for 4.5 hours, I recommend bringing your own gear, especially for the kiddos, and reef safe SPF is a must. Walk the island first then pick your spot, the wind blows the seaweed to one side. This key is also a nesting ground for way cool sea birds like the magnificent frigate bird! 10/10
