I have been in a reading slump. This helped me snap out of it. Check out my review. Spoiler-ish.. maybe

In Sara Gran’s “Come Closer,” readers are plunged into a world where the line between reality and the supernatural blurs with chilling clarity. As the protagonist grapples with what she believes to be demonic possession, Gran crafts a narrative that is as unsettling as it is compelling.

The story follows a woman whose life takes a harrowing turn when she becomes convinced that she is under the influence of dark forces beyond her control. What sets “Come Closer” apart is its ability to tap into a primal fear—the fear of losing oneself to forces unknown and unfathomable.

Gran’s narrative grips readers from the first page, weaving a tale that is both familiar and unnervingly alien. Through the protagonist’s descent into madness, the author explores themes of identity, agency, and the fragility of the human psyche.

What makes “Come Closer” truly spine-tingling is its ability to resonate on a deeply personal level. The protagonist’s struggle with her own unraveling sanity mirrors our own fears of losing control, of succumbing to impulses we cannot understand or resist. It’s a different kind of horror—one that lingers long after the final page is turned.

Gran’s writing is atmospheric and immersive, drawing readers into a world where the boundary between the mundane and the malevolent is razor-thin. Her prose is spare yet evocative, capturing the creeping sense of dread that permeates every page.

As the protagonist’s life spirals out of control, readers are left on the edge of their seats, grappling with the same sense of helplessness and inevitability that she faces. It’s a testament to Gran’s skill as a storyteller that she is able to elicit such a visceral reaction from her audience.

In conclusion, “Come Closer” is a work of psychological horror that will leave readers haunted long after they’ve finished reading. With its relentless tension, thought-provoking themes, and unforgettable protagonist, it’s a book that demands to be experienced.

I would recommend “Come Closer”.
