- This is not the oppression olympics. Instead of the โwe struggle tooโ arguments which is just gaslighting, understand people can PRIVILEGED and DISADVANTAGED at the same time. Letโs not act like we donโt know that.โฃ

- White people absolutely are the prime beneficiaries of colorism, but I am talking about how it works and manifests itself in the Black community specifically โฃ
โฃ
- Colorism is a GLOBAL issue that all people of color face. Iโve found the most identical Colorism to Colorism in the Black community, is how Colorism represents itself in the South Asian community. Itโs almost spot on and Iโve learned a lot reading a lot of stories from dark skinned south Asian women. It could also aim to educate the Black community on Colorism because there is no doubt. DARK SKINNED women are the targets of Colorism. โฃ

- However, no matter what race or ethnicity Colorism shows up in, it is always based on the ideals of whiteness and anti blackness. In other words, the hateful colorist/racist speech and attacks seen in any group of color are based on slurs and dehumanizing statements made to target BLACK people. So, for ex, to insult a dark skinned Indian woman, she may be called the N word or a gorilla. We all know what the former means and using animals to describe Black people has been used since Europeans sailed to Africa. โฃ

- All information in these slides can and SHOULD be researched. I donโt provide sources but they are out there. I also provide a reading list of my favorite books that delve into Colorism and the Black experience. I highly recommended checking that out in the Decolonize the Mind highlight ๐๐พ.
