Do you worry about supply? How much does a newborn eat anyways? Well the truth is, they don’t need much! But then why do some newborns like to eat ALL the time and mothers become worried that their baby is not receiving enough food? The baby may cry unless being constantly nursed. So what is happening? In most cases, it is just that the baby may not be satisfied with the first milk that comes from mama, colostrum, but this does not mean your baby needs formula to supplement. I’m not against formula but I prefer that it’s given when truly needed. This is not the case as long as the baby has at least 5-6 wet diapers + 2-3 p**p diapers in 24 hours. This baby is not satisfied because colostrum contains very little fat. Colostrum contains LOTS of protein, antibodies, and carbohydrates. Which is EXACTLY what the baby needs. (Too much fat would be very difficult for a newborn to digest). Some babies just need A LOT of colostrum. But don’t worry, once your milk comes in (2-4 days postpartum), your baby will start receiving more fats and be satiated for longer periods of time (aka, more sleep for you!). So hang in there mama! This is normal and you are doing a great job!

Have you noticed skin changes while pregnant? Not everyone gets glowing beautiful skin during their pregnancy. Some women develop dark patches on their skin (usually on the face) called malasma and some develop a dark line on their belly called linea nigra. These skin changes are due to a change in your hormones. Although it is not possible to prevent these changes, it is possible to minimize their intensity by avoiding the sun. If you must be in the sun, wear a wide brimmed hat and apply sunscreen. These skin changes do go away in time but they will go away much faster if you avoid sun exposure. So enjoy the summer but come prepared. ☀️❤️📸:

Do you LOVE coffee?? Well the good news is that while pregnant, you can still drink coffee...in moderation. According to ACOG (American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology), drinking up to 200mg of caffeine a day, does not increase your risk for complications during pregnancy. But how much is 200mg anyways?? Well, swipe left for more information on how much caffeine is actually in your coffee (according to US department of Agriculture). And here are some averages for some of your favorite drinks:
- [ ] Dunkin Donuts coffee- 14oz - 210 mg caffeine
- [ ] Starbucks latte- 16 oz - 150mg caffeine
- [ ] Nespresso capsule- (not Kazaar)- 55-65mg caffeine
- [ ] Keurig k-cup (most)- 75-150mg caffeine
If your favorite drink isn’t listed here, check online or ask the cafe before ordering. But if you love your coffee, there are plenty of drinks under 200mg, so ENJOY! ❤️📸: ?

Did you know that I offer a virtual prenatal course? Well, if you didn’t, follow the link in my bio for more information.
For those who are new to my feed, I am an Israeli certified Registered Nurse and Midwife currently residing in Long Island. I’m here to share my experience and knowledge to help empower women during their pregnancy, delivery and postpartum days.
I always encourage couples to take a prenatal class regardless of what their background knowledge is of labor and delivery. So if you are pregnant or know someone who is, send them to my website to find out more about a private virtual prenatal class. www.mybirthessentials.com

How much movement do you get in your day? Often people are counting steps and taking walks, and that is great! But don’t forget to MOVE your body. Prenatal yoga or just light stretching (avoiding any positions that have you laying on your belly or laying on your back). If you don’t have access to a prenatal yoga studio (even if virtual) try a YouTube video with prenatal stretching and movements. Try squatting, bending, flexing. All these movements help to open your hips, stretch your back and keep your body aligned and flexible. In doing so, you will be more prepared for your birth and you will feel better during your pregnancy. ❤️📷: -

Patience is key to birth 💜💜💜
Very often during labor and delivery there is a great deal of waiting. Waiting for contractions, for dilation, for the baby’s descent through the pelvis, for the baby’s rotation. All of this is just part of labor and it is important to remember that this is NORMAL! This is the case for most women and it is often forgotten when retelling birth stories. So instead of focusing on the “waiting”, try to focus on what you are doing and believe in what you are doing and try to look at the “waiting” moments as opportunities to regroup and find mental strength. Use these moments to rest, to close your eyes, relax, and breathe. Focus on believing in your body and believing in the process and connecting with the new life within you. ❤️📸:
