Rooted & Wild is officially out in the world.

Even typing that feels a little surreal.

This isn’t my first book, but this one feels different.

Very different.

Because I didn’t sit down one day and decide to write Rooted & Wild.

These essays were written over the past few years. Different moments. Different seasons. Different versions of me.

And somewhere along the way, without really knowing it at the time, I was writing a book.

A book I held in my hands today.

A book I opened and started reading…

…and promptly started crying.

There is so much I could tell you about what’s inside these pages.

But I don’t want to.

I want you to meet it for yourself.

I want you to turn the pages without me standing beside you explaining them. I want the words to find you wherever you happen to be when you read them.

Because these essays may have started as mine…

but what you find in them gets to be yours.

And I think I’m ready for that.

Well… this is starting to feel very real. 🌿📖

A first look at the cover of my upcoming book, Rooted & Wild: Essays on Identity, Nature & Becoming.

This collection grew out of a season of reflection, grief, creativity, change, and learning how to come back to myself.

It explores identity, nature, anger, aging, belonging, boundaries, creativity, and the quiet work of becoming more fully yourself.

Proof copies are on the way, and I cannot wait to hold this one in my hands.

I know I haven’t been posting a whole lot of business stuff lately.

Truthfully, I needed a minute.

Life handed me a breakup, and I needed some space to move through it instead of pretending I was fine, forcing creativity, or trying to show up like nothing had happened.

So I gave myself that.

I wrote. I cried. I got angry. I got quiet. I spent time outside. I worked on my book. I let myself feel all the things that apparently come with untangling yourself from something you thought was going to look very different.

And somewhere along the way…I started feeling like me again.

Not “everything is magically perfect” me.

Just grounded. Clearer. Curious about what’s next.

And, maybe most importantly, excited again.

I’m actually itching to get back to my workbench. My photo booth is calling my name. I have stones waiting to become something beautiful, ideas rolling around in my head, and OH YEAH…

I HAVE A BOOK TO PUBLISH. 😂📖

So if Small Town Gyrl has seemed a little quieter lately, that’s why.

I needed some time to tend to the woman behind the business.

She’s doing pretty damn good now.

Let’s Talk About It: Grief — Final Part

I think this is where I want to leave this series.

Not with “moving on.”

Not with “closure.”

Not with pretending grief eventually packs its bags and disappears.

I don’t think it always does.

Some losses become quieter.

Some stop taking up every room.

Some become something we can carry without dropping everything else we’re holding.

And maybe that’s enough.

Maybe grief becomes part of the landscape.

A place we’ve walked through.
A place we may visit again.
A place that changed us.

But it doesn’t get to own the whole damn view.

There is still joy.

Still laughter.

Still connection.

Still new things waiting to matter.

Still versions of ourselves we haven’t met yet.

And sometimes healing looks less like leaving grief behind and more like realizing there is room in us for both:

What was.

And what is still becoming.

So if you’ve shared here over these past few posts, thank you.

For trusting this space.
For naming what hurt.
For telling the truth about what grief has looked like for you.

And if you read quietly and never commented, there was room for you too.

There still is.

I don’t think grief needs a neat ending.

So I won’t give it one.

I’ll just say this:

Whatever you’re carrying, you don’t have to pretend it didn’t matter in order to keep walking.

Let’s Talk About It: Grief — Part Five

There’s a strange moment in grief that nobody really warns you about.

You laugh.

Really laugh.

Maybe you catch yourself singing in the car.
You get excited about something.
You have a good day.
You realize hours have passed without thinking about what you lost.

And then, sometimes, guilt sneaks in.

Should I be this okay?

Does laughing mean I’m moving on too quickly?

Does feeling happy mean it didn’t matter as much as I thought it did?

Grief can make joy feel almost disloyal.

But joy does not erase grief.

Feeling alive again does not betray what you lost.

You can miss someone and still have a beautiful day.

You can grieve the life you thought you were going to have and still become excited about the life that is unfolding now.

You can laugh until your stomach hurts and cry an hour later.

Apparently, grief has absolutely no interest in being consistent.

And maybe healing doesn’t mean choosing between sadness and joy.

Maybe it means learning that there is room for both.

So today I want to ask:

Have you ever felt guilty for feeling okay again?

Or maybe the opposite—

Have you ever had a moment of joy that made you realize, I’m still here. I’m still living.

There’s room for that here too.

Let’s Talk About It: Grief — Part Four

Grief changes the shape of us.

Not always in dramatic ways.

Sometimes it’s quieter than that.

You become more protective of your peace.

More aware of who actually shows up.

Less interested in forcing connections that no longer fit.

More honest about what hurts.

More willing to say no.

More grateful for the ordinary things you once overlooked.

Sometimes grief softens you.

Sometimes it sharpens you.

Sometimes it does both at the same damn time.

You may find that the person you were before the loss doesn’t quite fit anymore.

And that can be its own kind of grief too.

Because even when healing is happening, there can still be sadness in realizing you’re not going back to who you were.

Maybe you’re not supposed to.

Maybe grief doesn’t just ask us to live without something.

Maybe it changes the shape of us and asks us to meet the version of ourselves that exists afterward.

So today I want to ask:

How has grief changed you?

Have you become softer?
Stronger?
More guarded?
More honest?
More grateful?
Less willing to tolerate things you once did?

Or maybe you’re still figuring that out.

That counts too.
