Chronic repression leads to chronic problems.

Where does our chronic pain come from? When we sit with it and explore our pain through a holistic lens, we start to understand that every area of our life has an affect on the others. Where things hurt in our body, point to where they hurt in our lives.

A wonderful mentor of mine Thea Elijah says, “You can be you, or you can be sick.” The more we cover up our needs, our desires, and our truth, the likelier it is we will become ill.

Gabor Maté believes in a bio/psycho/social approach to illness. Meaning the keys to our illnesses can be found not only in our physical bodies, but in our emotions and our environments as well.

When dealing with chronic illness or chronic pain, the best approach is to take the entire person and the entire picture of their life into consideration.

I will be speaking about how to relate to chronic pain as an empath/HSP at the Break Free from Chronic Pain Summit this Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are on sale now. Link in bio.

Balance is an artform.

Fulfilling progress happens when you find the right balance of determination, action, allowing, and rest.

HSPs more than most people need to honor their own sense of timing. As highly intuitive beings, we have a sense of when we should be working, when we should be resting, and when it feels like the right time to say or do something. This might look different from day to day and that can make some people uncomfortable.

HSPs are skilled at reading their environments, the people and situations around them, and tuning in to the moment, and thus our decision-making can be a moment by moment process that reflects the new information we are constantly processing.

Unfortunately, most of us were taught not to listen to our inner knowing or our natural rhythms. We were taught to follow the rules, do as we were told, and make sacrifices for others. Including sacrificing our own sense of what was right for us.

Our families, our work, our friends require our attention in a predictable and consistent way, yet we must also commit to attending to our needs for rest, solitude, and fun.

Finding the right balance between showing up for others and showing up for ourselves can be challenging for empaths and HSPs. Healthy boundaries are the key to that balance.

I have developed a 5 Day Healthy Boundary Challenge for empaths and HSPs. If you need help striking balance and harmony in your life click the link in my bio!

I’m excited to share practical things you could be doing right now to improve your boundaries and cultivate more balance in your life today.

Pain is the message from our bodies that something needs to heal.

Pain is what alerts us there is something wrong. Pain demands our attention and our care.

It’s common to feel at odds with pain and wish it away, but it is a merciful messenger showing us where we need more love, more safety, more truth, more courage, more compassion, more connection, and more help.

Highly sensitive people and empaths feel pain deeply, but on the other side of that pain is relief, immense joy, and freedom. And we feel all of those as intensely. So if you’re an empath or hsp who is in pain, don’t despair. Find the resources and the people who will help you cross to the other side. Where there’s a problem, there’s a solution.

This Saturday and Sunday has put together a phenomenal line-up of healers to talk about chronic pain. The Break Free from Chronic Pain Summit promises to be illuminating. I’ll be there speaking on how to deal with chronic pain if you’re an hsp. Link to tickets in my bio.

Stars only shine brilliantly against a sea of black.

Our dark times of pain, confusion, and stagnation are extremely valuable parts of the healing journey. The periods I spent ailing were the crucibles that forged who I am today.

My struggles with scoliosis led me to greater body awareness and a connection to my backbone, to what I stand for.

My thyroid issues taught me what my body could and couldn't tolerate, where I needed to pay attention and slow down, where I needed to ask for help and make healthier lifestyle changes.

Chronic emotional pain taught me how resilient I am and revealed the depth of my empathy.

If I didn’t experience those hardships I wouldn’t be able to understand what my patients are going through and I wouldn’t be able to empower others by sharing what has helped me.

As Rumi says, “The wound is where the light enters.” The darkness is a teacher and a gift even when we don’t understand.

What does it mean to be highly sensitive?

The word sensitive gets a bad rep. Most people associate this word with being weak, “overly” emotional, touchy, picky, and strange. It took me a while to realize I was highly sensitive and to reframe my mindset around this label.

Being highly sensitive comes with its own set of challenges and rewards. Though every highly sensitive person is still a unique person, we share similar genetic traits.

I have come to embrace this label and the gifts that come with it as a superpower. Once I learned who I was, what that meant, and how to adapt for this special trait, it was easier to bring balance and harmony into my life.

Highly sensitive people aren’t like other people. We tend to get over-stimulated and then shut down. It may seem strange to others that we can’t “do” as much or put ourselves through the same level of stress or exposure to certain environments. This is not a weakness. We have amazing processing powers and are able to pick up on subtleties most others can’t.

I specialize in healing highly sensitive people and empaths and the first step to that is understanding what being HSP/empath means. I found much confirmation and scientific evidence for what I already intuitively knew in Elaine Aron’s book The Highly Sensitive Person. It’s a wonderful read.

Chronic pain can be physical or emotional and it affects highly sensitive people in surprising ways. ⠀
⠀
Highly sensitive people feel more than other people and we are affected by pain differently. We feel higher highs, but also lower lows.⠀
⠀
From back pain caused by scoliosis to hip issues, to migraines, to emotional pain from abuse, I’ve experienced and learned to manage and heal many different types of chronic pain over the course of my journey. ⠀
⠀
I will be speaking at the Break Free From Chronic Pain Virtual Summit on February 6th and 7th as part of an incredible lineup of healers from a wide range of modalities.⠀
⠀
I will be speaking about:⠀
⠀
✔️ How pain affects highly sensitive people in particular⠀
⠀
✔️ Why conventional pain management methods don’t work on us⠀
⠀
✔️ What to do to get relief from chronic pain if you’re highly sensitive⠀

Does your space feel serene, safe, loving, sacred? ⠀
⠀
We empaths and HSPs are more affected by our environments than other people. This is why it is important for our homes to be safe and comfortable. ⠀
⠀
Due to COVID 19 people are spending more time at home than ever, and t’s more vital than ever that our living spaces are nurturing. When you look around your home there should be things that bring you joy and comfort. Having plants, a cat, candles, stones and art on the walls, makes me feel happy and cozy in my home. ⠀
⠀
What small thing could you change in your living space that would bring you a deeper sense of joy, peace, or respite? Let me know your ideas in the comments below. ⠀

Why am I leaning on a motorcycle helmet in this photo? ⠀
⠀
Little known fact about me: I ride a Ducati. ⠀
⠀
Learning to ride is a skill I picked up in the last few years. It wasn’t something that came easily and I had to spend time and energy learning and practicing. The joy and freedom it brings me was worth every ounce of effort. ⠀
⠀
I don’t ride a motorcycle because of how it makes me look or because other people tell me I should or shouldn't. I ride because it fulfills me. My inner knowing told me it was right for me and I listened. ⠀
⠀
It makes some people uncomfortable, some people think it’s great, some people think it’s foolish. But other people’s perceptions and evaluations have nothing to do with what is or isn’t right for you. ⠀
⠀
Empaths and HSPs need to be reminded of this more than most. It takes courage to be who we are and do what we know is right for us. I had to practice trusting my own knowing and the instincts that I had been conditioned to suppress and ignore. ⠀
⠀
Follow your own guidance. Follow your heart. Follow the things that make you feel joyful and alive. When I ride my motorcycle I exercise my right to live authentically, bringing me a sense of freedom and happiness. ⠀
⠀
May we all cultivate the courage and the strength to follow our intuition to whatever wonderful adventures it leads us on! ⠀
⠀
Happy exploring! ⠀

Do you need help? ⠀
⠀
The short answer is yes. We all do. All of humanity is interrelated and interconnected. ⠀
⠀
Whether we rely on tangible help from our parents, friends, partners, coworkers, and strangers or we seek energetic aid from Saints like the one in this photo or the Universe, Source, Spirit Guides, Crystals or simply a strong belief in ourselves.—Help is all around us. Our responsibility is to ask for it and allow it. ⠀
⠀
Earlier in my journey, I didn’t allow myself to ask for as much help as I needed or even admit sometimes that I needed help. ⠀
⠀
As an empath and an HSP, it is easy for me to intuit the needs of others and support them. As an acupuncturist and a healer, my whole job is helping others. ⠀
⠀
It took me a long time to learn to balance the give and take in my life. But when I finally did it I felt so much relief and love flow in. ⠀
⠀
Are you allowing yourself to be taken care of as much as you are taking care of others? ⠀
⠀
Life is a balance of give and take, and finding the balance can be especially hard for empaths and HSPs. We tend to overgive. ⠀
⠀
A quick tip for bringing things back into alignment if you find yourself over-giving is to ask the following questions: ⠀
⠀
-What are my needs, desires, wants, yearnings? ⠀
-What do I need help holding, looking at, processing, healing, carrying? ⠀
⠀
Acknowledge yourself by admitting your needs with loving acceptance. Know that life isn’t meant to be handled on your own. Asking for help is a natural and healthy form of self-care. ⠀
⠀
Can you practice asking for help today? What would you like help with? Let us know in the comments below. ⠀
