➡️Not all processed foods are bad. Foods like canned beans, frozen fruits, plain yogurt, cheese, and whole grain bread are still real foods-they’ve just been slightly altered for convenience.
Think of them as real food with a little help.

But ultra-processed foods? That’s a whole different story.

These are lab-made, chemical-laden “Frankenfoods” filled with artificial colors, preservatives, sweeteners, and emulsifiers. Think chips, soda, instant noodles, fast food, protein bars, and flavored yogurts. They’re designed to be addictive, hijack your hunger, and offer little to no nutrition.

Why it matters:
Ultra-processed foods are fueling obesity, gut dysfunction, inflammation, blood sugar crashes, hormone imbalances, and mood swings.

If you want real energy, balanced hormones, and a healthy gut, start with what’s on your plate. Real food nourishes, heals, and supports every system in your body-while ultra-processed junk drains you, confuses your hunger signals, and keeps you stuck in survival mode. Choose wisely-because your food is either working for you or against you.

➡️Melatonin- regulates sleep-wake cycles and does not shut down your body’s natural production, a common myth. The body stores and releases it based on light exposure.
Beyond sleep, melatonin is a powerful antioxidant that protects mitochondria from oxidative stress and toxins. It supports anti-aging, immune function, and cellular resilience.

➡️Magnesium (Best Types: Glycinate & L-Threonate)
Magnesium helps calm the nervous system and improve sleep.
Magnesium Glycinate – Highly absorbable and great for reducing anxiety.
Magnesium L-Threonate – Supports brain function while promoting deep, restorative sleep.

➡️Valerian Root
Valerian is a natural sedative that enhances GABA activity, promoting relaxation. It helps with stress, anxiety, and insomnia, especially for those with racing thoughts at bedtime. Unlike sleep meds, it won’t leave you groggy in the morning.

➡️CBD (Cannabidiol)
CBD reduces stress, anxiety, and inflammation while balancing cortisol (the stress hormone). It promotes relaxation without the psychoactive effects of THC, making it great for chronic pain, anxiety, and insomnia.

🚫 Struggling with cravings? Let’s get to the root of the problem!

Cravings aren’t just about willpower—they’re your body’s way of telling you something is off. Here’s why they happen and how to tackle them:
✨ Why you’re craving all the things:
* 🍭 Blood sugar imbalances: Fluctuating sugar levels lead to energy crashes and sugar cravings.
* 😵‍💫 Hormonal shifts: Hormones like cortisol and insulin can drive cravings for quick energy.
* 🥗 Nutrient deficiencies: Missing key nutrients? Your body might cry out for fast fuel.
* 🛌 Stress & lack of sleep: These can amplify cravings and weaken your resolve.
* 💧 Dehydration: Sometimes, you’re just thirsty!
✅ How to regain control:
* 🥦 Bump up your fiber: Fiber slows digestion, stabilizes blood sugar, and keeps you feeling full. Load up on fiber-rich foods like veggies, fruits, and whole grains.
* 🥩 Add protein: Protein keeps you satisfied longer and helps crush those cravings. Think lean meats, eggs, nuts
* 🍠 Don’t skip healthy carbs: Fuel your body with energy-boosting high fiber carbs
* 🥘 Meal prep like a pro: Having healthy meals and snacks ready to go means fewer excuses to grab junk.
* ⏰ Eat 3 nutritious meals a day: Fill your plate with balanced meals that keep you full and satisfied throughout the day.
💡 When you fuel your body with what it truly needs, cravings don’t stand a chance! 💪 Make these simple tweaks, and watch your energy soar while those pesky cravings disappear. 🌟

Yes the system is backward. Health should be accessible, not priced as a privilege, and nourishing our bodies should be the baseline, not an “elite” choice. We can only control what we can control
Focus on finding the highest-impact options that support your health without breaking the bank. For example:
1. Prioritize Organic for the “Dirty Dozen”: Not all produce needs to be organic. By choosing organic for foods that tend to have the most pesticide residue (like strawberries, spinach, and apples), you reduce exposure without overspending.
2. Choose Whole, Minimal-Ingredient Foods: Skip the fancy labels and marketing. Look for items with minimal processing and few ingredients, which are often found in less marketed, basic versions.
3. Plan Meals and Cook at Home: Preparing meals from scratch gives you full control over what goes into your food.Homemade meals are usually healthier than takeout or processed alternatives.
4. Join a Local CSA or Visit Farmers’ Markets: Community-supported agriculture (CSA) programs and farmers’ markets can offer fresh, seasonal produce at a better price than grocery stores.
In an imperfect system, we have to navigate strategically, making the best choices with the resources we have. Every step towards healthier options is a victory!

Addressing long-term iron deficiency involves understanding not just the immediate need for iron, but also how your body processes and absorbs it. Here’s what you can consider:

👉Choose a good and effective iron supplementation

👉Enhancing your vitamin C intake is a key strategy. Vitamin C aids in increasing the absorption of iron when consumed together. Therefore, having vitamin C alongside your iron supplement could be valuable in boosting your ferritin levels effectively

👉Consider checking for potential underlying issues that could impact iron absorption, such as microbiome imbalances methylation issues, and pathogens as these can subtly affect how your body processes iron.

We all know that obesity is a major global crisis. According to the WHO, in 2022, 1 in 8 people in the world were living with obesity, adult obesity has more than doubled since 1990, and adolescent obesity has quadrupled.

While most people still assume that obesity is simply the result of eating too much, and not exercising enough, that’s not what the research has found.

Obesity, like many conditions, is multifactorial. But one of those factors is consistently overlooked: 👀 exposure to chemicals  👀
Researchers in a 2024 paper on obesity wrote: “Hundreds of in vitro, animal, and human epidemiologic birth cohort studies show effects or associations between environmental chemicals and obesity, including systematic reviews and meta-analyses”.

Here are 5 ways that obesogenic chemicals can mess with metabolism in ways that lead to weight gain:

👉 Promoting fat storage
👉 Altering hunger and satiety hormones
👉 Increasing the number of fat cells that develop
👉 Increasing the size of existing fat cells
👉 Altering metabolic set points

Much of the conversation around health focuses on diet and exercise - and these are unquestionably essential!!

BUT, if we’re working toward optimizing our health, whether it’s to look a certain way, feel a certain way, minimize your risk of disease, or minimize existing symptoms of disease, we MUST consider our environment.

I’ll be sharing a lot more about toxic chemicals and the health effects associated with them (not just obesity!), so make sure you’re following along to learn how we can start lowering our exposure!

👉Using the scale can be beneficial if you approach it as just another piece of data in your health journey. It’s useful if you understand that weight can fluctuate due to various factors and if you combine it with other measurements like body composition, waist circumference, or how your clothes fit. However, if stepping on the scale makes you anxious, negatively affects your confidence, or pushes you to seek quick fixes instead of sustainable solutions, it might be best to avoid it .

👉Remember, health is not just a number—it’s about how you feel and function overall.

➡️Your digestive system is responsible for breaking down food and absorbing nutrients, while your immune system defends your body against illness.

😑When your digestion is off, it can affect nutrient absorption, leading to deficiencies that can weaken your immune system. Eating a balanced diet rich in fiber, probiotics, and antioxidants can help keep both systems running smoothly.

👉By taking care of your digestion, you’re not only ensuring that your body gets the nutrients it needs but also strengthening your immune defenses. It’s all connected, and a holistic approach can make a big difference in how you feel every day.

✨When your digestive system functions optimally, you can experience a significant increase in energy, as your body becomes more efficient at absorbing and utilizing nutrients.

✨Additionally, by restoring balance in your gut flora, you may notice a reduction in food cravings, particularly for unhealthy snacks, which can aid in weight management. Clearer skin often results from a well-functioning gut, as toxins are more effectively removed from the body, reducing breakouts and improving complexion.

✨mental clarity is also enhanced, as a healthy gut reduces inflammation and supports the production of neurotransmitters, improving cognitive function and mood.

➡️These benefits illustrate why prioritizing gut health is crucial for maintaining vitality and overall health.

Reposting from the great IG page

Consumer Reports recently analyzed seven years of data from the Department of Agriculture’s pesticide residue monitoring program. While two-thirds of these foods are ranked low or very low risk, pesticides pose a serious problem in conventionally grown versions of the following six fruits and vegetables.

Here are some things I consider when it comes to optimal health:

1️⃣ Functional  Lab Testing can identify risk factors that are overlooked by routine screenings (things like a more specific breakdown of cholesterol, markers of inflammation, and levels of omega-3 fatty acids).

2️⃣ Stress is a massive contributor to high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease. We have a toolbox full of strategies to help your body better manage stress for heart health.

3️⃣ Poor metabolic health and elevated blood sugar can lead to cardiovascular disease if they are not recognized and managed early. We take prevention seriously.

4️⃣ Nutrition & supplements can be used proactively to support heart health before any medications or interventions are needed.

5️⃣ We look at the whole person—from gut health to inflammation to sleep and mood. Body systems do not function separately but very much depend upon and influence each other. If we want to optimize heart health, we need to optimize the whole body, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
