Excited to share that I’m currently finalizing the Therapist Manual for PsychoEd for PNES — the structured psychoeducation protocol that served as the comparison treatment in our recent randomized controlled trial. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S152550502600140X
In the study, PsychoEd for PNES delivered long-lasting improvements in depression and PTSD symptoms in patients with PNES/PTSD. These gains held up well over time (12-months), highlighting the benefits of tailored psychoeducation and skills building in this population.
The PsychoEd for PNES manual will be accompanied by a complete set of ready-to-use patient slides designed for 12 structured sessions.
I’m eager to soon making this resource available to therapists who work with patients living with PNES.

I continue to experience seizures, and through my diagnosis, I uncovered the deeper cause: repressed childhood trauma. I once b...

Is it possible that health professionals are actually increasing the stigma of PNES with the functional movement?

Empathetic Reformers? The doctors leading the recent push to rename PNES—most visibly in the 2025 ILAE Task Force proposal for “functional/dissociative seizures (F/DS)” and the American Academy of Neurology’s 2025 guideline that settled on “functional seizures”—often frame the change a...

The importance of sleep in maintaining mental health. Important for those living with PNES since fatigue can become a seizure trigger.

💚 May is Mental Health Awareness Month, making it an important time to highlight the connection between sleep health and mental well-being. Sleep and mental health are deeply interconnected—when sleep is disrupted or insufficient, it can affect mood, emotional regulation, stress resilience, and...

Stop the presses! A virtual support group for adults living with psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES) will be starting up in the next few months. It will be offered in collaboration with Epilepsy Alliance America and will be moderated by the amazing Pat Gibson, and Drs. Julia Doss and Lorna Myers. PNES Awareness is key and support is essential. We heard that this was a big need and this is why these professionals are going to volunteer their time to provide this to the community. Stay tuned!
