Falling for you…
Creating simple paper screen printing stencils are the easiest and most direct way to make a stencil for screen printing. And also the most fun. Nothing like the oohs and aahs of raising a sceeen and seeing a print for the first time.
Will be teaching a printing workshop in Eldred in Eldred, November 15. Can’t wait to see what you do!!!

Been painting fabrics for using at a “soft sculpture” workshop tomorrow with .mogendorf. Tamar has been teaching me how to go about making these weird soft sculptures I’ve become a little bit obsessed with.
Tomorrows workshop at her studio in Brooklyn will be a little bit of a collaboration- mostly me providing fabrics and helping out! This one is sold out but more to follow… cannot wait to see what the makers will be making!!!

These text based textiles were made at a time when I was feeling very quiet. Needed to use my words. Combined as collage or quilt or patchwork. I’m not quite sure of the difference between those terms. I printed and painted, hammered up the flowers, to create decorative fabrics colored with both natural and unnatural (industry standard & botanical) inks. I love the the tension created by the bright and the earthy tones. Then used these fabrics as the source material for the cutting, stitching quilting.

The content came from different sources. From a song, the ear worm the “birds and the bees”, by Tears for Fears, the song from the 80’s that got stuck in my head when sewing the seeds at or inspired by vintage cross stitching teatowels with the cliche - “yours is the earth and everything in it” derived from the Bible or Rudyard Kipling poem “If” which always speaks to me of great privilege. By inverting the words, “yours is the earth and everything in it.” Into a question I ask whose world is it?

Then suppressed rage I experience from watching what is happening in the world… “Enough is enough.”
