Myth: Gua sha is not safe during pregnancy. This warning appears frquently, but blanket fear is not clinical thinking and it is not doing pregnant clients any favors.
Gentle facial Gua sha on a pregnant woman is going to be fine. Where genuine caution comes in is with specific body areas and with clients who are very weak or unwell, because strong therapeutic bodywork in those situations carries real considerations. That is not a reason to avoid Gua sha altogether. It is a reason to understand what you are doing.
Knowing your contraindications properly is what separates a knowledgeable practitioner from a fearful one, not as a memorized checklist but as a real understanding of what treating people actually looks like in practice. When you have that knowledge, Gua sha is not dangerous. It is just intelligent clinical work.
