I see this pattern w/clients daily on our Oura Ring dashboard…the people who move their feeding window (first bite of food and last bite of food) earlier often experience noticeable nervous-system benefits on wearable data: lower resting heart rate, respiratory rate and temperature, plus improved HRV.

My friend Ben Azadi ()—founder of Keto Kamp (), author of Metabolic Freedom (published with !) discusses a 4‑day early time‑restricted feeding trial by Dr. Courtney Peterson at UAB. In that study, participants who front‑loaded more calories earlier in the day and tapered off toward evening saw increases in the longevity gene SIRT1 and about a 22% rise in LC3A, an autophagy marker linked to overnight cellular repair.

While it’s early research, it suggests that “quieting” your digestion before bed could support quicker sleep onset and more restorative rest.

M**A, SLEEP, & TRAUMA IN THE BODY: Some sleep struggles aren’t about your routine… they’re about what your body remembers...aka that o-so buzzy “nervous system” terminology.

In this conversation with Jonathan Robinson (), former psychotherapist, author of 16 books (!), and featured on Oprah & CNN, we go deeper than the usual sleep advice.

If your nervous system doesn’t feel safe, NO amount of blue-light blockers, perfect routines, or supplements will fully land.
We explore how unresolved trauma can keep the body in a constant state of alertness (I’ve been there!), and why healing (not “hacking”) may be the missing piece for true, restorative sleep.

Specifically, we look at facilitated M**A for use with BIG sleep disruptors like PTSD, depression, anxiety, and more…and how that could support your nervous system…and by a very obvious extension, your sleep.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re doing everything right… but still can’t fully relax into sleep, this episode is for you.

🎉 41st Birthday Surprise was featured in on a topic near and dear to my heart... Orthosomnia (!) (aka: an unhealthy obsession with optimizing sleep metrics)!

Tips for using trackers without driving sleep perfectionism
1. Use wearables as a flashlight, not a report card. Trends over weeks matter more than nightly grades.
2. De-emphasize REM and deep sleep numbers. Treat stage estimates as directional rather than definitive, especially without EEG.
3. Use trends, not daily verdicts. Weekly averages beat nightly micromanagement.
4. No checking in bed, no checking overnight, and delay checking until you are up and moving.
5. Tag behaviors, not emotions. Late meal, alcohol, late workout, bright light at night, stressful day, hot room. Make it actionable.
6. Focus on inputs over outputs. Morning light, consistent wake time, movement, meal timing, evening dimming, downshifting. Outputs follow inputs.
7. Add nervous system downshifts instead of adding more rules. Breathwork, NSDR, a dusk walk, a paper book, and a warm shower. Sleep needs safety cues.
8. Upgrade from guessing to testing when needed: consider lab work options (some wearables now offer pathways and partnerships for labs), and explore an at-home sleep test if you suspect sleep apnea or another sleep disorder.
9. If sleep is impacting your daily life or mental health, work with a sleep doctor, a sleep-specialized psychologist, or a sleep expert. For insomnia, evidence-based approaches like CBT-I and ACT-I can be game-changing, especially when paired with circadian alignment.

***It is also worth remembering that the average medical school curriculum devotes less than 2 hours to sleep education, even at Harvard Medical School, so unfortunately, many red flags can be missed in the current system. In that context, wearables, while not diagnostic, can serve as a useful smoke alarm, prompting investigation, testing, and better questions when something feels off or when issues are overlooked.

Most people think sleep starts at night… but it’s actually shaped by what you do all day.

In this episode, I’m joined by Dr. Donald Shrump Jr (), a high-performance health specialist working with (VERY) elite athletes, executives, and top cognitive performers, to explore why sleep is a strategic advantage, not just recovery.

And the timing couldn’t be more relevant 👇
✨ The National Sleep Foundation’s 2025 Sleep in America® Poll highlights that sleep health is strongly linked to overall flourishing, including productivity, mood, and performance.
✨ A 2025 American Academy of Sleep Medicine survey found that stress, anxiety, and depression are disrupting sleep for the majority of U.S. adults, showing how environment and nervous system load directly impact rest.

Inside this conversation we unpack:
• Why morning habits dictate nighttime sleep
• Travel sleep strategies used by elite performers
• Cortisol, melatonin & blood sugar, what your data reveals
• Why changing your environment can change your biology
• The power of consistent wake times (±30 minutes)

Question for you: Are your daily habits helping your sleep… or quietly sabotaging it?

Sun by day. Darkness at night.

But researchers are also studying near-infrared light as a targeted tool for the brain. 🧠✨
In today’s episode with neuroscientist Ramona von Leden, PhD (), the Scientific Advisor at we get into photobiomodulation (PBM) and why it’s being explored for sleep, recovery, and brain performance.

Wild highlights 👇
• A small randomized sham-controlled insomnia trial found transcranial PBM improved sleep quality scores and daytime sleepiness in just a week.
• Another sham-controlled trial found a red + near-infrared neck device before bed improved perceived sleep and relaxation, even though actigraphy didn’t shift.
• Mechanisms being studied include mitochondrial signaling and nitric oxide effects, plus a “brain cleanup” angle (glymphatic) in animal research.

If you’ve got a “sleep stack” that looks like a mini pharmacy… this one’s for you. 😅

In my conversation with Mark Dini (), a decentralised health consultant blending quantum biology, circadian science, functional medicine, and longevity, we zoom in on one simple truth: if you’re not testing, you’re guessing. Because when you’re taking magnesium + glycine + chamomile + valerian + lemon balm + all the things… but you can’t name what’s actually working? That’s not optimization, that’s overwhelming.

We cover:
• Testing vs guessing
• Why stacking too many supplements backfires
• The anxiety of “I can’t sleep without this.”
• How to simplify and focus on foundations
• Mark’s root-cause approach to sleep + health

Q. Are you optimizing your sleep, or just adding more things to it?

We talk so much about what we do at night to fix sleep…

but what if the real problem starts the moment you sit down in the morning?

If you’re sitting 8–12 hours a day in a compromised position, that tension doesn’t magically disappear when your head hits the pillow. It follows you into the night…into your breathing, your nervous system, and your ability to truly downshift.

In today’s episode, I’m joined by Ashley Williams, a Doctor of Physical Therapy head of Sales for Anthros ( the chair 🪑 I use daily!) with 20+ years in posture, seating, and pressure management.

We connect the dots between how you sit during the day and how well you sleep at night, why lumbar support alone misses the mark, how pelvis positioning affects your diaphragm, and why breaking up sitting time can meaningfully improve sleep quality.

If you’ve been doing “all the right things” for sleep but still feel wired, tense, or unrested… this might be the missing piece.

If we are honest…most of us are likely sitting many (many!) hours a day…and yet similar to sleep most of us are not examining this very important area!

Magnesium gets marketed like it is some sort of magical sleep switch like a sleeping pill.

I think of it differently. Magnesium is more of a foundational nutrient that supports normal nervous system and muscle function, which can matter if you feel tense, tight, or WIRED at night.

As always, supplements do not replace real sleep work.

If you want your sleep to change, always start with the basics:
• Morning light to start your day outside (and throughout your day!)
• Dim nights at night (incandescents & red lights) and lower stimulation as you wind down for the evening
• Consistent sleep and wake timing, seven days a week
• Stress downshifts that teach your body it is safe

From there, magnesium can act like a supportive base layer while you build those foundations.
I have personally taken a blend with 7 forms of magnesium for years, Magnesium Breakthrough by .

A LOT of us in our modern society are magnesium deficient…even when they’re eating really well.

Dr. Donald Shrump Jr. (), who works with VERY elite athletes (trust me, the people he has worked with are household names!), executives, and high-output performers, explains why magnesium is one of the more overlooked foundations for sleep, nervous system regulation, and performance.

We talk about why food alone isn’t always enough, how different forms of magnesium support muscles, nerves, and downregulation, and why WHEN you do something (light, food, supplements), can sometimes matter just as much as what you do.

This conversation goes deep into sleep as a strategic advantage, from circadian timing and blood sugar to travel recovery and performance longevity.

Quick episode highlights:
• Why most people stay magnesium deficient
• The difference between magnesium forms (and why that matters)
• Sleep, nervous system regulation, and elite performance
• How timing impacts recovery more than effort

👉 Curious if magnesium could be a missing piece in your nervous system routine?
