The best anti-tumor medicinal mushroom. Treasure it, don't waste it.

The answer to this week’s Herbal Trivia question is Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) a.k.a. Clinker polypore. "This powerful medicinal mushroom – which grows on birch trees – contains the compound Betulin which has shown broad-spectrum anti-tumor activity with virtually no toxicity."

Chaga mushroom is an ancient folk remedy used throughout Siberia, Scandinavia, the northern US and Canada for cancer and immune deficiency. Although few human trials have been done using Chaga, it may turn out to be the most powerful medicinal mushroom of all. It is a rich source of betulin, which has shown broad spectrum antitumor activity with virtually no toxicity as well as immune potentiating mushroom polysaccharides. In laboratory and animal studies this mushroom has been shown to exhibit antitumor, immune amphoteric, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, hypoglycemic, antimutagenic, antinociceptive and neuroprotective effects.
