We wandered the beaches of Samaná, I kept thinking about how fleeting this season is. One day your body is home to two hearts, and before you know it, it becomes a memory. These aren’t just maternity photos… they’re a love letter to the threshold between pregnancy and motherhood.

Being both a birthkeeper and photographer allows me to witness these transitions in such an intimate way. My camera isn’t there to capture perfection; it’s there to preserve truth. The quiet moments, the anticipation, the tenderness, and the love that already exists long before a baby’s first breath.

No one prepares you for how much you will shed becoming a mother. Not just physically, but mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and relationally too. It can feel like unraveling at times…old identities, timelines, expectations, friendships, and ways of being falling away. And yet, nothing is truly lost. In the space where everything shifts, something more honest, more grounded, and more whole is born.

A year ago I attended one of the most important births of my journey as a birthkeeper. It was the first birth I’d ever attended that ended in a loss…

We spent days together. I would go home, rest for a few hours, and return again. It was long. It was hard. And it was full of love.

I witnessed the most intimate moments between a family preparing to welcome their baby into their lives. I watched them move through anticipation, exhaustion, hope, and joy. I witnessed this beautiful baby grace us with their presence. They cried upon arrival, transitioned earthside with eyes open and taking in the world around them. They were perfect.

This work is so sacred because I am invited into some of the most transformative moments a family will ever experience. I get to witness some of the best days of their lives.

But birthwork has also taught me that to truly serve birth, we must be willing to sit with death.

As birthkeepers, we spend so much time preparing to welcome life. Yet we must also prepare ourselves to hold families through the unimaginable when life and death meet in the same room.

Not every birth story ends the way we hope it will.

Some babies stay for a lifetime.
Some stay for only moments.

And still, every baby deserves to be welcomed with reverence.
Every parent deserves to be witnessed in their love.
Every story deserves to be honored.

This birth also taught me something I wasn’t prepared for… the births we attend become part of our stories too.

As birthkeepers, we are forever changed by the families who allow us into these sacred spaces. Their joys, their grief, their triumphs, and their losses leave imprints on our hearts. It matters that we acknowledge that. It matters that we grieve, process, and honor these experience because bearing witness changes us.

One year later, I still carry this birth in my heart. It deepened my understanding of what it truly means to hold space… not only for beginnings, but also for endings.

This baby’s life, however brief, matters. They were here. They are loved. And their legacy lives on forever.

This mantra is for my dreamers, believers, creators and manifestors… The tongue is mightier than the sword! Write it, speak it and sing it into existence. Your thoughts is what brings your prayers to life… What’s one thing you’d like to materialize in your life? See yourself in that light. It’s already done!

“When we birth, we birth twice. Once for us, and once for our child.”

Last year I enrolled in ‘s year-long midwifery + birthkeeping school with the intention of diving deeper for the families I have the honor of sitting with. But once I began, I realized this wisdom wasn’t only meant to help me serve others deeper… it was also meant for me and my own journey.

This path taught me that midwifery is not just about supporting birth. It’s about how we move through life. How we respond instead of react. How we soften into the flow. How we tune into the mystical intelligence that guides us… because life is physical, yes, but it is also deeply spiritual.

Those who sit within these portals remember just how sacred life truly is. Having teachers like and reaffirmed not only my calling to midwifery, but also to motherhood.

Being called into becoming a mother while sitting amongst 200+ wise ones felt like divine intervention. Had it not been for every birthkeeper I’ve crossed paths with along this journey, I truly believe my birth (my becoming/unbecoming) would have looked very different.

These recent graduations have completely shifted and elevated my life (and the lives of those I love) in the most profound and empowering ways… and I know this is only the beginning.

Coming up on a year since my last bleed, since my initiation into motherhood… life in my womb summoning me into the underworld. In true artist nature, creating something this sacred called me to retreat, to go inward, deep work of calling all my energy back to me and the releasing of old timelines. This is what felt right for me to traverse through the birth spiral the way that I did, on my own terms🌀 Though I’m still greatly integrating the most psychedelic journey of my life and still moving through the altered states, I feel called to step back into the light… Sharing my birth journey feels important to pay homage to every being who walked with me through the abyss, every ancestor who walked before me and for the ancestors making their way. For now I’ll begin with my Creator, The Most High for seeing it through… Thank you for being with me all along the way, I give it all to you 🕊️ Faith over fear has been the practice I’m learning to master.
