Last week in Philly.

$3 one way for the MTA NYC subway is actually wild.

Spent the week working on my skills, taking myself on little dates, trying new snacks, and convincing myself I wasn’t stress eating the entire time.

As Black Maternal Health Week comes to a close, I want to say this clearly:

Awareness without action isn’t enough.

We need more doulas in delivery rooms. We need hospitals to train staff on implicit bias. We need insurance companies to cover doula care. We need policymakers to treat this crisis with the urgency it deserves.

I became a doula because I refused to accept that this is just how it is for us.

If this week moved you — carry it forward. Advocate for a mother in your life. Support a birth worker in your community. Ask your employer what they’re doing about maternal health equity.

The work continues.

I shed more than I realized at the time.
A neighborhood. A version of myself. The comfort of what was familiar.

I left Brooklyn and bought a house in Long Island.
I cut all my hair off, because sometimes you need to see yourself without the armor.
Some friendships faded, not out of malice, just distance and becoming.

I struggled with self-love in ways I didn’t yet have language for.

Yoga found me there, not to fix me, but to help me stay.

Through every season of uncertainty, Lo was my anchor.
My reason to keep choosing forward, even when it felt lonely.

None of it was accidental.

Just in case you missed my face. 😉🖤
