We gathered earlier this week to bid a fond farewell to our former President & CEO, Muzzy Rosenblatt, and celebrate 26 years of transformational leadership.

We are deeply grateful for the vision and innovation he brought to BRC and the countless lives he touched along the way. Muzzy helped shape BRC’s growth, strengthened our mission, and expanded our programs, allowing us to serve thousands more New Yorkers every year.

A special shoutout to the incoming New York University freshmen who spent their time giving back to the community.

12 student volunteers rolled up their sleeves and helped care for the courtyard and outdoor spaces at our permanent housing program in Brooklyn. By pulling weeds and picking up trash in and around the facility, the students helped create a cleaner and more welcoming environment for our residents.

We are so grateful for their time, energy and willingness to help. Thank you for showing up and making a difference!

The past weekend, our tenants at The Apartments at Landing Roads (ALR) thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing evening of ‘Sit, Sip & Paint.’

Throughout the summer, our dedicated program staff organizes a variety of engaging events, giving tenants the opportunity to get creative, connect with one another and enjoy some time to unwind.

Moments like these are a wonderful reminder that home is more than a place to live. We thank our staff, partners, supporters and donors like you who help make everything we do possible.

Mandelo was born and raised in Harlem to educated parents who met at a historic Black college. As a teenager, Mandelo rebelled under the weight of his parents’ expectations and ultimately ran away from home.

Mandelo’s first baby was born when he was 19, and today at 30, he is the father of three children. When he and his partner started having relationship issues, he was forced to move out and found himself unhoused. He’s been staying at a BRC men’s shelter in the Bronx for a little bit over a year and is using this time as an opportunity to rebuild. He utilized BRC’s internship program and employment services to find a job, and he remains very involved in his children’s lives.

It is because of the generosity and unwavering support of our donors, partners and supporters, we are able to offer programs like the ones Mandelo is using on his pathway to self-sufficiency.

Meet Tina, a BRC tenant at Bronx Family Housing (BFH). Tina experienced housing instability after the death of her mother. Because of this, she and her two children spent nine months in the shelter system before securing permanent housing.

When she first moved to BFH, Tina was reticent to utilize BRC services due to significant mistrust of people and systems. When she saw how BRC was dedicated to creating homes that are spaces of dignity and care, Tina began working more closely with staff, building deeper connections and engaging in the community.

Today, Tina has a full-time job and lives in a peaceful home with her family.

Meet Thomas, a BRC tenant at the Robert C. Wood Apartments (RCW). Thomas came to BRC through Outreach and the Moving Home Residence Program in 2017.

He has a long history of alcohol abuse and has had several relapses, but he is currently 24 months sober. Because he has maintained his sobriety, Thomas was able to move into the RCW Apartments in 2024.

Thomas, along with being a RCW Community Action Board tenant representative, is currently doing maintenance work as part of the BRC internship program with a goal of ultimately securing a permanent, full-time job. He believes that one must ‘just keep marching forward!’

Each semester, the Pace University Literature Department partners with BRC to run a semester-long, student-led book drive, where proceeds are donated to a BRC program. Last semester, the books went to our Inwood Women’s Residence, and this semester tenants at Robert C. Wood Apartments will benefit from the university’s generosity.

We are so grateful to Pace University, the Literature Department, Professor Wilson Ding, and all of the students for their efforts.
