🤍 It’s ! Preeclampsia is *serious* and affects 5-8% of pregnancies in the US.

The condition is characterized by high blood pressure (140/90+) during pregnancy and can develop gradually or rapidly, often with few noticeable symptoms. It typically occurs after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

HOW IT AFFECTS PARENT + BABY
For birthing people, preeclampsia can lead to liver and kidney issues, stroke, seizures, blood clotting problems, and fluid buildup in the lungs. For babies, it can restrict growth, cause premature birth, low birth weight, and in severe cases, stillbirth.

WHO IS AT RISK
Black and Latinx birthing people are disproportionately affected by preeclampsia. Other risk factors include first pregnancy, previous preeclampsia, chronic hypertension, diabetes, kidney disease, carrying multiples, or being under 20 or over 40.

RISK MANAGEMENT
Regular prenatal visits with blood pressure checks are crucial for early detection. If you’re at higher risk, talk with your provider about preventative measures like low-dose aspirin. The only “cure” is delivery of the baby and placenta, which is why early recognition and management are so important for both parent and baby’s health.

The most important thing to note — TRUST your body and the signs it’s giving you - if something feels “off,” don’t hesitate to contact your healthcare provider.

Holistic Beauty & Ritual 💕🌷
Skincare is sacred.🙏🏾✨

At Blyssom, we return to the body through slow, intentional care. The skin is not a problem to fix—it is an altar to tend. And this is why we have a wellness model. Our wellness intake and skin consultations are holistic by design. We talk about your stress, your rest, your water, your rituals, your cycles, your environment, your emotions because your skin is not separate from your story.

This work lives in my home. Not just the physical space, but in how I move, how I care, how I listen. My practice is not something I turn on and off—it is something I embody. Every treatment, every conversation, every recommendation comes through a lived philosophy of care. 💗🫶🏾

To consult with you is to study with you. To tend to your skin is to witness your glow up.
This is beyond surface-level beauty. This is practice. This is ritual. This is 🌸✨

Hyperpigmentation is not a flaw 💎 it is a story the skin is telling. For so many Black women, our skin carries the memory of stress, inflammation, acne, hormones, sun exposure, products that were never made with us in mind, and years of being told to “just cover it up.” 💄

But at Blyssom by Shapel, we don’t treat Black skin like a problem. We treat it like an archive because it is sacred, resilient, intelligent, and deserving of care.

Microdermabrasion can be a beautiful part of a brightening and skin-renewal journey when done gently, intentionally, and with melanin-rich skin in mind. It helps lift away dull surface buildup, smooth texture, support cell turnover, and allow your corrective products to work more effectively.

But let me be clear: the goal is not to erase you. The goal is to reveal your glow with patience, protection, and consistency.

For my Black women dealing with dark marks, uneven tone, acne scars, or dullness: your skin does not need punishment. It needs a plan. It needs hydration. It needs sunscreen. It needs softness. It needs a professional who understands that melanin is powerful — and must be handled with care.

This is remembering that your glow was never gone and it was just waiting to be tended to.

Book your microdermabrasion treatment and let’s begin the soft, steady work of bringing your skin back into balance. Visit www.blyssombyshapel.com 💗

I am really heartbroken. Jasmine was truly a girl’s girl. And not for performance purposes either. We have a connection via Spelman via being from the TriState area and journeying as Sacred Women. 🌹

I cannot believe she is now Ancestor. She is such a light. It brings me to tears to think while battling cancer she was still conceiving of ways to be of service and heal others. ❤️‍🩹💔

Jasmine Charnelle supported me as a woman and I will forever be indebted to her displays of love and compassion for me and BlyssombyShapel. As a new mother and caregiver as well as transitioning away from a toxic relationship and protecting myself in the chaos of daily life, Jas was full of love and light. She was a very good big sister in an easy and consistent way. I will never forget how she poured into me and my vision with Blyssom in the early stages. She supported by receiving services and buying products but also in including me in the pop ups in her community in Newark, NJ.

I am so sick of cancer. And I am so enraged and sadden with Black women dying from cancer. Jasmine just turned 37. Less than two weeks ago. 💔😭

Jasmine’s life reminds me that Black womanhood, at its most sacred, is not spectacle but practice. It is the quiet and consistent labor of showing up, pouring in, affirming, and making room for one another to become. She embodied a kind of care that felt ancestral even while she was still here, the kind of love that does not seek applause but leaves a permanent imprint on the lives it touches. In Jasmine, I experienced what it means for a Black woman to mother community, to nurture vision, to extend tenderness in the midst of her own suffering, and to remain committed to healing as both calling and offering. That is why this loss feels so heavy. We are not only grieving a beautiful soul, but also the living testimony of what Black women give to the world even while carrying more than they should ever have to bear.❤️‍🩹

Jasmine you are so beautiful and I will all the time we were suppose to expand together. Thank you for being you through and through ✨🙏🏾

all you get is now. That line has been sitting with me.
You don’t get to choose how long you’re here.
You don’t get to skip the hard chapters.
You don’t get to rewind the version of yourself that had to grow through it. But you do get now.
And this is one of my nows.

A soft launch is coming to Blyssom by Shapel — born from light, ritual, and the woman I’ve become on the other side of so much. I’m not revealing everything yet… but this one is special.❤️
Morning. Midnight. Softness. Return.✨🌞🌝

Stay close babes

And during Black History Month, I want us to honor that kind of knowing—the kind you can’t always cite in MLA format because it was never meant to be trapped in a textbook.

This is why I’m launching The Archive Is in Our Skin: A 28-Day Ancestral Education for Becoming—a month-long series for reflection, remembering, and coming back home to ourselves.

Why this series belongs at Blyssom by Shapel
Blyssom by Shapel has never been “just skincare.”

Blyssom is skin-care—care as a verb. Care as a ritual. Care as resistance. Care as reverence. Our ancestors lived in a world that tried to turn Black bodies into labor, spectacle, property, and problems. And still—somehow—Black folks found ways to practice tenderness 🥰

In my favorite Mariah Carey voice: “It is timeeeeee.”Happy Black History Month, y’all. 🖤✨I want to invite you into something that feels like both a ritual and a return. Understanding where we come from shapes who we are. Our ancestors left behind more than stories—they passed down knowl...

A groundbreaking discovery in brain health has revealed that facial lymphatic vessels play a crucial role in draining toxins from the brain. When massaged, these vessels help clear out waste, which is vital for the prevention of neurological diseases like Alzheimer's. Scientists are excited about the possibility of using this technique as a non-invasive treatment for brain health.

By targeting these facial lymphatic pathways, researchers believe they could slow down the progression of diseases that impact memory and cognition. Early intervention with this method may provide an effective and natural way to protect against diseases that lead to dementia.

This discovery also emphasizes the importance of regular facial massages, not just for relaxation, but for overall brain wellness. It’s a promising avenue for future treatments and something that could change the way we approach neurodegenerative diseases. 💆‍♂️🧠

Rest in Heavenly Peace Cousin Marti 😭💔 What a shock but also seeing you fighting was a painful thing to witness. This event is Isaiah 57:1-2. “Good people pass away; the godly often die before their time. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come.” Only 56 years young...I thank you so very much for being such a good big cousin for real! You live on in my memories as a joyful, grateful and loving soul. You are etched in my core memories of Black girlhood as you were my first consistent hair dresser when I needed a press and curl. You taught me so much as a little girl about beauty and taking care. I can’t remember every conversation in your basement salon but do know that I truly was obviously inspired by you so much when crafting a realized space for BlyssombyShapel
