MTF ate all the guitar cake and celebrated 75 years of a guitar great, our friend and beneficiary Van Wilks, at a rockin fete in Austin.

True to form, Van played his guitar for a good part of the evening alongside musical mates and well-wishers. Happy Birthday Van! Always good to see you keep the music playing ❤️

You know her. You love her… and we do, too!

Rosanne Cash has blessed us with many gifts. Whether sharing her music at our benefits or spreading the word about our mission as an MTF board member, we remain grateful for Rosanne’s contributions, not only to our humble nonprofit but to the world at large, both as an ambassador for the arts and a social advocate.

Please join MTF in wishing one of our most ardent artist supporters a very Happy Birthday! 🎉

An appreciation post for our friend Dr. Nathan Williams, an internationally celebrated soloist and chamber musician.

The brilliant clarinetist shared his hand injury & recovery stories with MTF and Dr. Alton Barron in 2020 as a way to encourage others who might be suffering from similar injuries to seek help.

Today, Dr. Williams performs as the principal clarinetist of ROCO in Houston. He is also a founding member of the musical trio Strata and an academic music educator.

If you are a working musician suffering from an upper limb injury, get help with confidence by reaching out to MTF. We remain dedicated to helping artists receive orthopedic care so they can keep the music playing!

This Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, we celebrate the artists whose talent & storytelling continue to inspire the world. From music and film to business and the written word to culinary and visual arts, these creatives have shaped culture in powerful ways.

MTF's executive director Irene Chang-Cimino is the longtime Board Vice President of Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund, a nonprofit that protects and promotes civil rights of Asian & Pacific Americans. Irene recently attended the organization's annual gala in NYC to celebrate AALDEF and this year's Justice In Action Award recipients, Kalpana Srinivasan and Bowen Yang.

We hope you’ll join the APA celebration this month to explore the work of Asian & Pacific American artists, filmmakers, writers, and, of course, musicians!

Henry Ferland studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston. He played his guitar so much, he developed Carpal tunnel in both hands.

“I was in constant pain and couldn’t really use my hands. I had to take a semester off because I couldn’t play or even really take care of myself, so I moved back home to New York. It really was a hard year.”

Then Henry discovered MTF. After Dr. Alton Barron performed surgery on both his hands, he was playing again within a month.

Henry just released his debut single, “Songbird,” and will showcase his fingerpicking style at shows in & around New York throughout the summer, plus an appearance at the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society in Nashville in July!

Find out more about Henry, and how MTF helped him to keep the music playing, via the CARE page on our website.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month — and for musicians, an important reminder that the passion we pour into our art should never come at the expense of ourselves.

At MTF, we often encounter our beneficiaries at their lowest point: unable to perform, in pain, financially strapped, their livelihoods threatened by their condition.

Being a musician can look exciting from the outside — the shows, the late nights chasing a dream — but behind the scenes, it can also mean burnout, anxiety, self-doubt, isolation, and constant pressure to keep creating.

So this month, check in with the artists around you. Support them beyond the streams and sales. And if you’re a musician fretting over an upper limb injury, or know someone who is, MTF is always here to help keep the music playing for all!

How do you get to Carnegie Hall?

On this date in 2018, MTF donors enjoyed an evening at the landmark venue for the Chamber Festival Benefit. One of our earliest fundraising events showcased six fantastic classical musicians, plus the many hugs and handshakes from our founder Dr. Alton Barron at the cocktail reception before the concert.
