Rebound headache: the Excedrin in your locker can feed the next migraine.
Painkillers on 15+ days a month (10+ for triptans and combo pills like Excedrin), for 3+ months, can start causing headaches of their own.
Tag the coworker who needs to start counting her pill days.

Statins for life? LDL is normal, so your patient wants to skip the statin refill.
Normal LDL on a statin means the statin is working. Without it, LDL cholesterol climbs back and the plaque loses its guard.
Plus aspirin's warning about Advil.

Tag a colleague who has this conversation every week.

Sulfonylurea vs metformin: why does the glyburide low come back after the juice?
Glyburide forces insulin out with no glucose. Metformin rarely drops anyone low.

Tag the colleague who counsels your diabetes patients.

Taking vitamin D every day and your blood test still says low? Your vitamin D needs magnesium to switch on.
Your liver and kidney activate vitamin D with tools that run on magnesium, and about half of Americans don't get enough. Food first: spinach, almonds, black beans. Levels take weeks to move. Kidney disease? Ask your doctor before adding magnesium.
Tag someone who still tests low.

Check your calcium bottle. If it says calcium carbonate, take it with a meal.
Carbonate is the same stuff as Tums. It needs stomach acid to dissolve, and food brings the acid.

Skip breakfast, or on an acid reducer like Prilosec? Calcium citrate dissolves without it.

Tag the person who takes their calcium with their morning coffee.

Cheap magnesium oxide: supplement or laxative?
It carries the most magnesium per tablet, but your gut absorbs very little of it. The rest pulls water into your gut, and that's the diarrhea.

Magnesium glycinate carries less, gets in more, and goes easier on the stomach.

Check your bottle. Tag whoever buys the magnesium in your house.

The ferrous sulfate 325 mg on every CVS shelf holds 65 mg of elemental iron.
Ferrous fumarate and ferrous gluconate come in the same 325 mg box with different iron inside, and the gentle iron is gentle for a reason.

Tag the person who takes "the gentle one."

Differin (adapalene) made your acne worse by week 3? Don't quit the retinoid yet, and don't wax.
Skin bought it with no prescription and no prior auth, then learned the rest the hard way before senior pictures.
Tag a friend who gave up on Differin too early.

Albuterol rescue inhaler: treating asthma or hiding it?
A SABA opens the airways fast. The asthma inflammation keeps burning behind the wall.

Tag a colleague who's rung up one too many "refill too soon" ProAir scripts.

Lantus vs Toujeo after a prior auth switch: same insulin glargine, 1:1 on paper.
Watch Toujeo's U-300 depot form next to Lantus's and see where the dose goes after that 1:1 start.
Tag the pharmacist on your team who handles insurance transfers.
