Good Dad Talks with KB Nau Exploring how to be a Good Dad in today's challenging world.

We’re starting to understand more about what the kids are going through at school. Karna spent a day there with them, and we’re seeing just how much energy it takes to navigate an entirely new language, culture, and social environment.

We’ve only been here a little over three months. When I really think about it, these kids are doing phenomenal.

I want to remember that when things get tough. To see them for who they are, not just how they’re behaving in a difficult moment. To breathe, stay calm, and give them the patience and understanding they need.

I get opportunities to rest and recharge. They’re facing challenges every single school day.
I’m proud of these kids. They’re dealing with a lot, and they’re doing better than I sometimes give them credit for. I need to remember that, take a breath, and give all of us a little grace as we figure this out together. ❤️

Yesterday, Karna reminded me that I needed a little time to recharge. ❤️

Sitting in the rooftop pool at Steam Hotel, looking out over Lake Mälaren, I found myself reflecting on how grateful I am for her and for the life we’re building together.

This transition hasn’t been easy. We’re navigating a whole new culture, a new way of life, and some real struggles as a family. Watching the kids work through it has been hard.

But there’s also so much beauty in what we’re creating. We’re showing our kids that there are different ways to live, that possibilities exist beyond what we’ve always known, and that we have the power to shape our own future.

I’m grateful for the reminder to unplug, slow down, and appreciate the life we’re building.

And I’m especially grateful for the woman I get to build it with.

Thank you, Karna. ❤️

Taking a few minutes to slow down and pause.

It is really hard watching my kids struggle. It hurts to see them in pain, and as a dad, my instinct is to fix it. To make it better. To take it away.

But I can’t always do that.

Right now, I’m trying to hold onto the belief that the clouds will eventually part and that we’ll look back on this time and be happy we made the move.

I keep reminding myself that the first few months are probably the hardest. That doesn’t make the hard days any easier, but it helps me remember that this is a season, not the whole story.

Some days are just tough. And honestly, that sucks.

Today I’m just trying to slow down, breathe, and trust that it will get better. ❤️

Sometimes my kids ask me for something, and I sigh.
And I’ve started wondering what they hear in that sigh.

Maybe I’m busy or distracted or in the middle of something and don’t really want to be interrupted.

But what do they hear?

You’re bothering me.
This is inconvenient.
I don’t have time for you right now.

And that’s not the message I want my kids to hear or carry with them.

The other day, I was listening to Life Wisdom- By Words pf Taoism #57, “Why Receiving Feels So Hard,” and something in that conversation about how our relationship with praise and receiving can be shaped by what we learned growing up got me thinking about this.

What am I teaching our kids about their value? Not just through what I say, but through how I/we respond when they need us?

I want my kids to know that asking for help isn’t a burden.

That their needs matter.

That they are worth listening to.

Because I don’t just want them to feel comfortable coming to me when they’re 9 or 11.

But also I want them to feel comfortable coming to me when they’re 19… 29… or 39.

Right now I’m working on this:

➡️Becoming more aware of the messages I’m sending, especially the ones I never actually say.

➡️When they ask for help to stay calm, breath and remember to be excited I get to help them.

➡️And to slow down enough to make our kids feel heard.

Sometimes life doesn’t leave much room for the gym—or much of anything else.

Kids starting school. Moving to Sweden. A whole lot of transition. And honestly, I’ve been overwhelmed, stressed, tired, and I haven’t been to the gym in about a week and a half.

I’m trying to remind myself not to be too hard on myself. Just do my best, stay positive, and keep moving forward.

One day at a time. 💪

We had a bit of a Rocky start this morning getting the kids out the door to school. We made it, but I got them there about 20 minutes late on day on day four of a new school , a new country
I’m gonna call that a win!!
And then I had to dash home grab a few things and head back downtown to a government building, to an appointment to move things along with my residency.
But then I made sure to take a little time for me enjoying the beautiful city, the river, the lake, a ride home filing my cup.

Some days it’s incredibly difficult to stay calm with our kiddos. The devices are such a struggle. We moved to Sweden and my son and I both don’t really have any any friends yet. So I can understand how challenging it can be without your buddies. Everything is new and different. Even though most people can speak English they’re more comfortable when giving a chance to speak their native time so I’m surrounded by gibberish so is he he and his sister are going start a new Swedish school in a little over a week in a different language. So I get it. But dang is this parenting thing hard sometimes.
